Getting shocked everytime I touch my car... Wont turn over and start... short somewhere?
Well.. in the past couple weeks, my 93 civic dx has been straining to turn over (usually when its extremely cold out--its not too bad if its fairly warm) and it also makes a constant noise for like 5 min while its warming it up. I dont know how to describe the sound except that it sounds kind of like a remote controlled toy car. This morning, i went outside and tried to start it and it was even worse with the turning over, and wouldnt start. After school, i tried again, and now it wont even turn over. I can hear clicks, which i'm guessing is the main relay and ECU...
Ive been searching and readin around, sounds like its the starter or my battery. I hooked a charger up and the battery is fully charged. Maybe the cables are bad? Also, my speedometer doesnt work anymore--actually i should say it works, but it is very random. The pin will jump to random speeds (sometimes when im not even moving) and come right back down, and once in a while the speedometer will work perfectly. Ive read that a bad alternator can cause this too.
any ideas?
EDIT: All lights in the cluster are working
EDIT: ok well.. something i just noticed: recently (over the last couple weeks) every time i touch my car--like to open or close the door for instance--I get a shock, and a pretty strong one at that... i thought it was just static electricity but now im thinkin its a short somewhere
what do u guys think?

My speedometer does the same thing. I haven't bothered to check it out because it doesnt occur often, but at times. I tell people I can go to 0-80 in 1 second when I am not even moving . But for the shocking, I get lots of shocking when I open my door or open a metal house door after driving. Pisses me off so I sometimes hit the metal door before going in.

I can't help you out with the car not starting...as for getting shocked everytime you get out the car, I had the same problem. I have found that putting my hand on the body of my car before letting my feet touch the ground when getting out has stopped me from getting shocked. Just keep contact with the car as you get up and out. When you touch the door to close it, no more shock! This doesn't do much when you're going to get in the car, but I had this problem mostly when getting out the car anyways. I hope this helps you and everyone else.

That's wierd. I live in WA too and I only experience the shocking when it's really warm out.

I'm having the same problem: car is hard to start when its cold, shocked when i get out of the car, plus my radio has some serious feedback sometimes, and my car alarm is acting buggy.
With all this happening, I believe there is a bad ground somewhere. I just have yet to find it.

umm.. well still havent found that spot for the ground. the only thing thats under that part of the air filter you circled is like a mount for the brake cable or some kind of cable. I dont see anywhere to ground that loose cable still. could someone take a picture of the cable in your car please? thanks guys

just take the ground attach it to the spot on the starter then attack the other end to eather the frame of the car or to your tranny somewhere.
