getting new stuff in CF
so i am learning how to make things outta carbon fiber using the wet method. my first projects are going to be;
1. CF door panel, with armrest and fully functional controls.
2. Fully functional CF sunroof that slides and everything, in place of glass.
3. maybe a full carbon fiber dash, will be pretty pricey though.
4. CF headrest connecting arm thingy(connects seat to headrest), pretty easy looking.
5. ...What else should i make outta CF? i might make all the rear trim/side panels CF, the A-pillar, a center console. can someone think of other cool projects? i am going to be able to mack pretty much anything outta cf, just need ideas.

Re: getting new stuff in CF (SkyeC)
tacky maybe, but light as hell, the door panel would weigh in at around 3-5oz. not bad for a weight reduction *****. ya it looks better than all gutted tho, like mine is now as well. note that it might not all be the carbon fiber your used to, i might be using a carbon kevlar which is yellow, and looks a lot different than nrm cf. there are so many options that im not sure what im going to use. for the sunroof thing im probibly going to use the norm looking CF with a layer of honeycomb in the center of 2 layers of CF, REALLY strong and still extremely light(just a few oz).

Re: (blackhatchy)
make some functional **** man. We all would like CF hatches, doors, seats, dash, hood, etc. Make the functional stuff and everyone will buy it! Make gloveboxes and center consoles, and punks will buy it.
I'm just concerned about how far you will get with this project. Lots of people have made promises in the past only to have tried and failed, I am wondering why your situation is different. Prove me wrong!

Re: (UpstateCivic)
do not make the things that connect your headrests... if you are in a wreck you will regret it because they will snap in half and probably end up injuring your neck. Just some info... The headrest is functional and protects you from serious whiplash/neck breaking. CF is not strong when force is placed on it in a direction like your head hitting a head rest...it is strong in tension...
eh, just an FYI. The sunroof is a good idea...i like it.

Re: (93eg-EKhybrid)
ya just the covers, because they would be easy and we are still learning to work with the CF and fiberglass. once i make a mold for something in my car outta fiberglass i will be able to readily replicate it fairly cheaply. the hatch idea would be sweet but since i have a coupe it might be a little harder. the projects WILL happen and this is not an empty promise, the only thing that might not happen is the dash as its really big and would cost a fair bit of money for the supplies.
