Default getting keys made

okay so this is the deal. some one tried taking off with my car. it is a 98 civic coupe. they broke the door lock and the ignition switch. so far i cant find anyone to sell a new matching pair, with keys. so i was thinking that i should just hit a salvage yard and get the locks and ignition from another car. rarely do i ever find one with the key in the ignition. i heard that with the vin number you can get replacement keys made. do i call the dealership with the vin number from the car at the yard or do i call some specialist???
im not trying to spend $400+ for a brand new set, i know that i can do that.

I called honda dealership, gave them the VIN and they gave me the keycode. Goto a honda dealership with your key code and title (sometimes ask for photo id also) and they make you a key, cost me 36 bucks. It will probably be hard to get a key made if you dont have the title to the vehicle especially with a honda. Otherwise you could call in someone elses vin number and get a key made to their car.

it's $210 list for a replacement set. alternatively i guess you can take the cylinders to a locksmith and have them make you a key i suppose.
