I'm currently driving a 92 dx hatch. I drive city quite often, but not to a point where traffic jams occur. I've been asking locally about how far they're running in a tank (live in van, bc, canada btw) and they're saying approx. 310miles + in a tank. I'm currently getting 250miles a tank. I think i'm running rich, but i'm not too sure. Is there anything i can do to increase my mileage? Especially stuff i can do with the engine? I'm on stock everything right now.

Tried searching but can't find any good results. I just suck at searching

so are you saying if i'm getting any check engine light on? If that's what you're asking, then no, no cel is up. Sorry but i'm total newbie and just starting to learn all these mechanical stuff. :D

I'm a photographer so this is definately not my thing, but am very interested to learn

air filter and spark plugs are new. May be i need some ignition wires.

The Igniter is new too.

Everything everyone else recommended...plus your 02 sensor might be getting old, which would cause you to run rich, thus getting bad gas mileage.

Would it be something in the internals that would affect mileage as well? would some new tranny fluid help?

How long since you've gotten a tune-up? Spark plug wires, spark plugs, dizzy cap/rotor, fuel filter (not necessary but most do for the sake of changing), air filter (cleaning or change), fuel system service, etc. etc.

I'd change your o2 sensor(s) though. I remember when mine was bad, I was getting roughly 250 miles per tank and I changed it and got back up to 350+.

Im have a 95 coupe and yeah I am getting the same milage as you. If I fill my tank up and drive it without reving past 3K (very hard) then I can almost get 300, I have changed my sparks plugs, CAI, fuel filter and all. But not my O2 sensor becuase that is basically impossible to get off even when I sprayed PB Blaster on it

i wonder if this is wierd. I filled it up to the top yesterday and it was only 26L (6.9gallons) and i fill it when the tank is almost gone (like when i step on the throttle and sometimes it doesn't go for a second etc) May be there's something wrong with my fuel sensor? At the fuel station it automaticly cuts when i'm at 7 gallons though.

The amount of MPG should not be based on a "full tank" going so far. The only accurate way is as follows:

When you fill up reset the trip meter. Next time you fill up divide the gallons to fill back up into the miles drive thus the MPG (mile/gallon). Be sure to be consistant when filling.

I track mine each tank so when the MPG starts to drop I know a tune up is in order.

well i'm getting 32MPG, resonable? Take note that i don't do hwy driving too much, but i never get stuck at traffic as well.

You should be getting 30+ regardless of city/hwy driving unless you have a heavy foot. But yes 32mpg+ is good.

I'd say the o2 sensor if you haven't replaced it.

well this helped me out as well. everythings new except the 02 sensor. i wonder if 2 1/4" exhaust and no cat causes worse gas mileage? (i hate the exhaust so dont get mad at me)

No cat and straight piping/test pipe = worse gas mileage.

^^^how does it affect your MPG? you would think the velcoties would be higher allowing less engine load to extract the exhaust gasses. I know a 2.5" exhaust would decrease velocities, but if you keep it around 2.25 with a 2.25 test pipe? I noticed 0 difference in my MPG without a cat, with a huge exhaust leak.

Honda spent a lot of time and effort to get maximum torque in the most useable (used) RPM range (1000-4000 RPM) with the quite stock exhaust system.

Yes an open exhaust may help on the top end (4000-6000 RPM) but at the expense of low end performance. The percieved HP gain (its louder) does not usually equal the modest gains at the top end.

The only time a larger pipe will help is if major mods to the intake, head, exhaust are done together with proper tuning and are run on a race track where high RPMs are the key to performance.

Spend your money on "good" suspension and braking mods it will give more "fun" for your money.
