is it simple enough to replace the synchros myself? i have no knowledge of manual transmissions, but i consider myself slightly mechanically inclined. suggestions on reading material and other parts i could replace while i'm in there to make things run smoother would be appreciated. the tranny is 10 years old and works just fine except when shifting from 1st to 2nd quickly.

I would at least get a helms and someone with manual tranny experience. I have done a clutch swap, but opening the tranny is a whole other story.

it could be something as simple as changing to another MTF..maybe a full syn. would work ..it did wonders on my car..

one thing about opening up a tranny..unless u know what ur looking for there could be a nitemare waiting for u

it is the synchro, changed it in my friends mustang, and some kid with a civic too.

The problem your Expierencing is the hubrings that lock the synchos and the actual gear together..those get worn and typically grind from fast gear shifts
you can order the parts from the honda dealer and the sell the synchros with the hub rings and the gear ..in 3 different sets 1-2 gears 3-4 gears then 5th etc
replacing just the synchros wont cure your problem
