Gauge Overlay...Anyone done it?
I got a JDM cluster, and I can't figure out how to get the overlay over top the original overlay. I know I can't take that glass/plastic off.
Any feedback might help!

Re: (Pho Real)
I bought one of those Carbon Fiber Bezel Overlay's off e-bay (see link below). Now from what I understand, it is to stick overtop the normal black housing. PROBLEM!!!! The clead plastic is fused on, so how do you get access to the black housing???

Re: (Double_Dk)
OK, so the solution I came up with is one word....DREMEL. I just took a cut off disk to the area's with the glue to get at it. Then glued it back together. Just wanted to share it in case anyone else wants to try it

You can take the plastic off, but it is attached to the overlay. On the bottom and the top of the clear plastic you can see what looks like glue holding it to the dark overlay. Cut the glue and you cut your problem

I have taken the clear plastic off before. Just get a flat head srewdriver in there and work it all the way around. You will hear a cracking noise as the glue lets go. Make sure you dont crack the plastic though. Put the new overlay on and seal it all up with clear silicone or super glue!
Good luck!

Re: (MonKey Magic)
I would also like to see pictures of a cf overlay installed... I got mine in the mail today and didn't realize I would have to cut anything until I got the cluster out! I don't have a dremel handy so I had to put it back together for the time being... Is it really safe to break the glue with a screw driver? I don't want to break or scratch anything that I shouldn't! Should I go ahead and break the glue now or wait till I can borrow a dremel? .. anyways, TIA for any info!

Re: (akumaracer)
I installed my overlay this morning... here are the pictures! I hope they clarify things!
P.S. This is my first time posting pictures, so be patient with me!!
Before I separated the glue and removed the plastic cover...
After breaking the glue, you can see where it was attached...
After attaching the overlay and reattaching the plastic cover...
All done!!!!
Good luck!
Oh, by the way, I used a utility knife to separate the glue so I could get the plastic cover off, then I just used super glue to reattach it! I hope this helps!
