gas smell???? help
Just finished puttin a rebuild jdm b16a onto 93 cx and it smells a lot like gasoline, the swap we did has dc headers, fujita cold air intake , chippped p28 with knock sensor, and o2 sensor dissable and when we turned on the car it smells like gasoline but a lot . What could be the problem???… btw where the headers and the pipe connects its not all the way because the piping its the stock one and its too small could this be the problem ??

How does the engine run?
Does it seem like it's running pig rich?
CEL's?
Eh...look for gas leaks around the rail and filter?
As far as the pipe goes, sounds like you might need to fabricate a little..

Re: gas smell???? help
yeah as far as that goes it could be a couple of things. if you only smell it when you turn the key in the on position it could mean that you might have a clogged fuel filter. or there is a leak in the o-rings of the injectors. or you have a leak along your fuel lines that run under the car on the drivers side. there is a lot of stuff that could be wrong. first thing first check the gas tank and go through all your fuel lines. thats what i would do first.

Re: gas smell???? help
Well. Its the first day driving it, pulls hard vtec kicks in good, no cels, and as far as gas consumption it seems fine I filled up the tank and drove it for at least 50 miles and the needle hardly moved. Fuel lines seems ok too I check them.

ok then look at the at the injectors and see if they are leaking. and do you only smell it around vtech or what? if its not leaking there try smelling the fuel filter it normally is located to the right of the battery on the firewall. atleast thats where mine is.

if its only when you start up also look at the fuel pump. if you smell it near the rear it is part of the tank. if its near the front then its in the front. i had the same problem and my fuel line at the pump was kinked. but if it is the injectors it can be an easy fix. because if it is it will be one of these
1. the o-rings the ar between the top part of the injector and the fuel rail
2. i believe there is an o-ring between the manifold and the injector.
3. the fuel line to the fuel rail may be loose or something.
4. the injector it self could be dead.
those are the options i am thinking of.

yeah the fuel pump is easy to get to and so is the filter i know how you feel i just got out of high school and now i have all the free time i want. just no money to do any serious mods. but good luck and just incase check all your fuel lines from the back all the way to the front. and maybe the charcoal canister. i've found that if you go filling your car with gas and you put in more gas after it stops automatically you can fill the charcoal canister and over flow it and that would cause you to smell gas too. good luck.

Re: gas smell???? help
yeah then its the cat. the b18 motors produce more carbon monoxide. and emisions then the d series, for people who do not know what a catalytic converter does, it converts all left over polutents that the motor does not burn in the combusion chamber to Co2. *source coming from emissions people* so of course i had that same problem with my car. the cat that was in my car was off a integra so the motor was a b series, so now that its in my car the cat was already full and it was giving a gas and a rotten egg smell. hope this was helpful.
