gas leak...
94 civic hatch automatic: seem to have a gas leak, slow if tank is not filled BUT when I open the cap to fill there is a loud hiss making me think that the leak might not be the fill tube (which looked wet when I crawled under)...any ideas? Just putting in 5-6$ at a time but want to get it fixed up.

Re: gas leak...
hey i'm not a troll -maybe a clumsy ogre who's a little disorganized. leAK seems to come and go but i was wondering it there was a leak why is there the hiss that happens when there is no leak on other cars. When tank was full i saw dripping but couldn't tell exactly where it was from. When tank was lower I saw wet on the fill pipe which also looked very flakey and asked on here does the tank need to be drained or just very low to try to swap out the fill pipe and didn't get a response. i dont have a lot of $$ and mechanics round these parts seem to think it grows on trees so I figure I'd try to do it myself if it isn't too hard of a job. but i need some help/advice/parts/tools list so i don't get stuck part way thru with no wheels at all. And maybe which parts are the trickier parts. Your time and advice is very much appreciated.

Forget about the hiss. Forget about it. It's totally normal. If you think it's dripping, get down under there and find it. None of us can do that for you, you need to get in there, get your hands dirty, and find it. We also expect you to follow simple rules, which you have failed to do.

Re: gas leak...
the problem is the leak is intermittent: stinks and even drips when active. today not so much. so i filled it to the top hadn't doe that in weeks) and then took it to a friend who had a lift. he pulled off the plastic guards over the neck and we looked and looked but no leak. he checked the tank and it seemed ok too. the neck looks shaggy with rust and has some black spots that look leakish but do smell and no leak. frustrating. I feel like doing something: maybe swapping the neck would do it? he said to come back tomorrow if it starts leaking overnight...so for once I hope it does.
