Default gas gauge problem

I did a search but could not find any solutions to my problem.
I have a 92 hatch and recently my gas guage stopped working. It stays pegged past full. I tried different cluster but same problem. Could it be a bad sending unit? Does anyone know how to check to see whats wrong?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
