Default Gap when closing hood

So I bought my 99 Civic Si with a black not OEM hood, found a perfect OEM Milano red one to replace the black one but there is this gap that I can't seem to get all the way gone when shutting.

I've tried screwing the rubber stoppers on each side above the headlights. And have adjusted the assembly where it latches.

Any other suggestions...

Pictures attached.

Uh, that hood is still open. The security latch isn't catching.

yeah, it looks like you need to bring the assembly up so it catches on the second latch and stays down.

Bring it up to close the gap? The hood won't open unless I pull the realese so I know it's not open. But I will mess with it tomorrow.

Every locking mechanism I've dealt with has two positions for the latch to lock into.

Your hood seems to be latched onto the first spot and now you have that gap. If you can't get the hood to close any further, even with a good amount of force behind it, then bring the locking mechanism up, so the second position is reached.

So I've raised the hood latch assembly and this is the new gap that I'm left with ..

Open the hood and secure it.

Take a pocket screw driver and presss down on the hood lock and see how many locking positions you have. You should have two.

If the lock doesn't have two positions, you should replace the latch assembly.

I was able to get it to click twice so it's not broken. But I did lower it again and cleaned the latch assembly so I'll take pictures when I go back out to show how it sits now after I lowered it back down.

That's exactly where your hood would be sitting if it wasn't latched at all. Let's see some pictures of the latch, and the hammer (the part of the latch that's bolted to the hood).

its closed. you've been driving around on the secondary only. i STRONGLY recommend securing it with a ratchet strap or similar until you can fix it properly.

Why not use a screwdriver in the latch, pull the hood release, and pop the latch open?

And if that doesn't work the problem wouldn't be with the latch, but somewhere back up the line.

EDIT: I don't think that latch is closed. It may not be closing though. Use a screwdriver to verify it's proper operation first.

I did the screwdriver test and got it to click twice, that's why I'm confused on why it's not closing the gap when I shut the hood

Where is the hood "hook" sitting when it's closed? In other words, is the hook matched up with the latch or is it resting on a part of the body?

I'm not familiar with your model, but maybe you can pull the grill and see what it's doing/not doing when it isn't locking.

EDIT: hook = hammer. I was unsure of the correct terminology.

It looks like the engine-side of the hood "hook" might be landing on the aft part of the body. There's quite a bit of red paint missing.

Maybe the hood is about a quarter inch too close to the windshield?
