gap between front bumper and fender....
This is on a co-workers 2000 Civic Si.
He slammed it, and then bottomed out one day....
Result is a 1/2 inch gap, and it seems to have pulled the metal tabs down too!!
The tabs look a little maimed, and i also think it tore the metal...if so...i think he's screwed...anyway....
It's either number 8 or 21 in this pic...I cant tell? any help please...
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...UMPER
Should i just plan on bending the metal back to original place and replace with clips that are not broken?? or am i missing anything....
I will get pix next time he works too...i just want to get a headstart...
anyone else done this before??
TIA

8 is the plastic insert that goes into the fender.... (there is a square cut out in the fender to hold the plastic insert)
21 is the bolt/screw that goes into the insert... holding the bumper to the fender...
if the fender cut out is totally broken then you have to get someone to weld in a tiny bit of metal to hold the insert... if it's not totally gone (and frankly even if it is)...
I'd suggest just getting some zipties and finding somewhere you can fix it with those...
If the hole is there it's easy to zip tie... and frankly pointless to spend any money on doing it "right"... it's just a screw and an insert... I'd just use a ziptie... OK actually I AM just using zipties... and it looks fine... also makes for MUCH easier bumper removal... snip snip...

According to the pic, 8 is a female nylon retainer/clip and 21 is your standard 10mm bolt and washer. Try and screw the bolt in more to close up the gap. If the nylon clip is stripped, get a bigger bolt.
Also, on 97 and up civics, the fender hold down bracket (located right under the headlight in the fenderwell) has a metal tab that aids to prevent bumper sagging in that area. Check that tab and bend it back if applicable. One last thing, also check if the bumper is aligned with no.11 bracket in the picture.
(doh he beat me to it)

If you don't wanna use zipties, JB weld and sheetmetal are your friends.

use zip ties, I do, they work 100% better then the stock clips. The only down side to the ties are when you catch your bumper they don't give like the clips do, it takes 150 pounds to break the ones I have on my car. Don't weld anything or I'll punch you in the face

I'm not sure what you're suggesting here... but I'd say don't jb weld your bumper to the fender... it'll never come off.. the zip ties are TOTALLY unseen and work great... you just have to cut them to remove the bumper or fender...

hehe...what I meant was if the retaining clip hole is mangle, you could reform it with JB weld or JB qwik and some sheetmetal.
