funny noise coming from tranny
Ive been noticing alil chatter noise coming from the tranny when the car is running. -these are the symtoms-
1)chattering noise...but the noise goes away when i step down on the clutch ..then when i let off clutch the noise comes back....and this is when im not in ne gears.
2)when step on clutch idle rpm jumps up from 780 to 820.
3)when i step down on clutch(clutch it self) makes a squeeky bed noise
thats about it... its just buggin the hell outta me that i dunno why its making that noise...should i change the tranny fluid...might it be that?...or something else like the clutch might be touching something
btw..stock clutch

I will almost bet you that it is your throw out bearing... since you say it goes away if you play with the clutch.

I ask cause, mine does the exact same thing. I still do not know what is wrong.
Press in the clutch it goes away, release it and you hear a little chatter.
it gets very annoying after awhile.

1. you can hear a slight slight noise, not like chattering but something quiet
2. when i step on the clutch at idle, the rpms do move up a little but only like 100 rpms
3. sometimes when i step on mine, i hear that ' squeaky bed noise too..
But it seems to be grabbing fine...

Re: funny noise coming from tranny (cr00klyn718)
Talked to my dad about throwout bearings and he said that maybe when the throwout bearing is disengaged (when you put it in neutral and let the clutch out) it's possible it could be not fully disengaging (from the rod) so its still sitting on the rod meaning its not coming all the way out anymore. He told me that if you can slip the clutch in a little and have the noise go away BEFORE you can engage a gear then it's your throwout bearing since your clutch engages fine... That sounds to be the most likely situation because if it was your clutch then my dad said it would be making the noise when the clutch is in AND out... My dad's been around cars his whole life and he's comming up on 50, and he knows more than me so I'd go with what he says You could always take it to a good tranny place and ask them to check it out (more advisable thing to do)
EDIT> You could always get a nice stereo and blast it, I don't hear fire trucks until they're right next to me

My 00' Si also makes a squeek from the tranny, but only in neutral, and sometimes in 1sr gear.

Re: funny noise coming from tranny (cr00klyn718)
i'm in the same situation as you where when you press the clutch down it goes away but then when you let go of the clutch it begins to make the noise again. I recently changed my clutch and throwout bearing which is weird because it never used to make that noise until the new throwout bearing was installed. I've tired just lubricating the clutch release fork with silicone lubricant and it acutally does go away for like 2-3weeks, but i'm beginning to think the bolt holding the release fork is loose or the release bearing has gone bad. Anyway if you are on the same boat as me then test it by turning on your car and firmly press against the release fork which is covered by a boot where you drain your clutch fluid and if the noise goes away when pressed on, then you cannot deny that it has something to do with the release bearing. Let me know whats up, I too would like to get rid of that unforgetful noise.

Re: funny noise coming from tranny (xhatchracerx)
What you say is true. My friends thought it was the bearing too but it wasn't. My friend had the same problem with his 91 civic. His car is not gifted enough equipped with a hydralic clutch like the rest of us . He got a new transmission and a new clutch and the noise went away.

except...
it wasnt a 'chattering' ... but more of a whistle....and yes when i put my foot on the clutch, (not even press the clutch, just lay my foot on it) it would change pitch.
also there was that bed squeak...
and you say that its NOT not catching?...you sure? mine was so bad it wouldnt 2nd gear scratch...
but anyway, yea it was throwout bearing...also was gonna check mainshaft bearing but was like **** that ill just get a new clutch.
so a few hours later i was sporting the smooth ride (nothing like a young clutch)
IM me if you need any questions on what went down.
