Full Gauge Sweep (defi, Subaru, etc)
Has anyone on here ever herd of ANY way to make non sweeping gauges sweep like on the Sti's and Start up of the Defi Gauges...Just kinda interested in the idea lately...

Re: Full Gauge Sweep (sireg6)
They're electronic devices, controlled by a signal from a sensor elsewhere in the car, so yes, it is technically possible. But unless you already know electronics and feel like reverse-engineering circuits until your head spins, it's pretty much impossible. And then, you'd have to build your little gauge-sweep box, and make sure it didn't expletive up the sensors that are supposed to be driving the gauges.
If you had that knowledge or drive, you'd be doing it and writing it up, not asking how it can be done.

the problem is the gauges (temp and fuel) move very slowly even if the signal is at the opposite extreme, so you'd have to redesign the internal workings of the gauge and not just throw it a signal.
the tach and speedo would be fairly easy with a pair of 556 timers and some messing around with a few transistors. All though you'll be adding mileage to your odo every time it happens. (may not seem like much but it will add up if you daily drive it)
