When I converted my 91 Civic to MPFI I used integra fuel injectors from the junkyard. To clean them I had to soak them in B12 chemtool. Then I scrubbed them with a tooth brush. Most importantly is the debris screen on each injector. I had to remove the screens and scrub them. So in my opinion its not possible to clean nasty fuel injectors by adding stuff to the gas. BUT for prevention of buildup I would use a cleaner.
