Why not just purchase a whole pump assembly and replace it all while you're in there? I guess that would only be if you had some money to spend though.

Btw, are you replacing this because the gauge doesn't read accurately all the time? That's a common thing with Civics. I believe I remember reading that their tanks aren't as baffled as others or something along those lines.

Re: Fuel sending unit? quick question..
From the sounds of it you may just have a defective cluster then. If you replaced the fuel pump with a complete new assembly (pump, strainer, level gauge, etc.) and it didn't fix the issue you may have either bad wiring or a defective cluster. I know on GM vehicles when the gauge starts reading whacky it's usually the **** *** GM fuel pump going bad. Generally Hondas don't have many issues with fuel pumps or level sensors going bad though.
Usually the Civics will read only slightly off for a short period of time I.E. going around a sharp turn, going up or down hills, taking off from a stop, etc. Once you stop and are on level ground the gauge will read fine. It doesn't read super wonky like some of the old cars did, just that it will go up or down 2 or so gallons depending on what you're doing. It's not really a problem though, seeing as how your gas light will come on once you've got 2 gallons left. My girlfriend's is like this, as is my 94 EX. Seems just like a common thing. Not that it's a problem really since the gas light will catch you plenty in time before running out of gas. lol

Kind of off-topic, but isn't that the truth!!!
I work in auto parts, and I'd say 75% of the pumps we sell are for GM vehicles (mostly trucks)
They are garbage!!!!

Re: Fuel sending unit? quick question..
Haha, yep. GM fuel pumps are extremely shitty. I've replaced them in nearly every kind of GM vehicle - Cavalier, Impala, Grand Prix, Silverado 1500, Jimmy, Blazer - and the list goes on and on. They fail in two major ways. One is that the fuel level sensor ***** out and starts reading wonky. The other way is that it just dies suddenly and burns out. Pretty much sucks ***. lol
