Fuel Pressure problems

Fuel Pressure problems
I swapped a JDM B18C into my EG and it would start. and when it does it bogs and idles irratic and backfires and there is a rapid tapping when the ignition is switched on.
I put a fuel pressure gauge on and i realise that the car was bleeding off the fuel pressure too quickly. so i swapped out the regulator to see if that was the problem and i realised that the vacuum hose was split. so i swapped the regulator and the vacuum line. Start it up adn it was holding the fuel pressure around 42 psi. the rapid tapping also went away.
I took it for a drive and after about 100m it dies.and refuses to start again. and we push it back into the garage
so i called it a night and tried again this morning. when i went out i turned on the ignition and the tapping was there again and the fuel pressure was reading 18psi and goes no higher.
What could be the problem?
