Default fuel knock or valves

so heres what has happened,it sounds like fuel knock and it only does it while going through the gears. ive gone up to 91 or 93 whatever the highest is, and there wasnt a significant amount of change, so i dropped back down to 87 and added amsoil PI injection cleaner and nothing sounds horrible. ive changed out the filter and pump not chasing this problem but in routine. so if its not fuel knock them im leaning towards valve chatter, now ive replaced the distributor and timing belt and everything else there, i didnt notice the noise before i did all of this, it was after, so i have checked the clearances and all of the intake valves are set at 8 and the exhausts are set at 10 which is well within clearances, this is a 97 civic ex d16y8 manual transmission no mods, this is my daily and would like to fix it so i dont hear this noise while driving. thanks for any help..

Did you use a timing gun to adjust the ignition timing to spec? See FAQs sticky for diagram.

Another possibility is carbon build up inside the cylinders causing detonation. You might want to try a Seafoam treatment.
