Default fuel guage sending unit?

Alright, i was wondering if anyone had a tech on how to install a new sending unit for a fuel guage? Mine is broken, and a shop near me wants 85$ to install a new unit? Also, does anyone know where i can pick on up online for a good price? My car is a 1997 Honda Civic CX? Thanks!

I'm going to guess it is the "meter unit" #20

You have to take the back seat out and open the fuel tank cover to get to the sending unit. I think that since the part is 45 dollars, I would just pay the 85 and have the shop fix it.

no its not a big deal to do. removing the rear seat is easy. once you do that there is a cover with 4 screws. under it is the unit with two plugs and about 6 10mm nuts. that is all there is to it. I had to replace mine.

You can do it in less than an hour if you aernt scared of opening the gas tank. Easier than a fuel pump install.

yeah it's real easy. remove back seat, 5 screws on access cover, sending unit is right there. but make sure you disconnect the battery, and open the gas cap first. it also helps to smoke at least half a pack of cigs in the process.
