Fuel Gauge pegged at full
I just took my reverse glow gauges out of my 99 ex and made sure I didn't do anything to break the needles or move them aroudn too much, and when I went to plug the cluster back it, the needle went straight to full. I took it back apart and made sure nothing was wrong and everything looked just fine, I just can't figure it out, and no one has any threads on here about a fuel gauge problem like this. The temp gauge right next to it works fine, as well as everything else on the cluster, just the fuel gauge. I'm not sure what I could have done, but anyone else have this problem at all or any suggestions of what to do??

This is the same reply i gave another person with your same problem, only that for him it was his temp gauge, just like me...
Hey buddy
Its not a difference in plugs or whatever, its the temp gauge itself thats messed up. If you take your cluster apart and look behind the temp gauge, take the metal cap cover off , now there are tinnnnnyy little hairlike cables that make the guage move up and down. These little hairlike cables have current and if just 1 of them breaks, then thats what happens to your gauge. Get yourself a magnaphine (sp?) glass and look very carefully at the little cables. There should be about 4 little terminals in the corners, this is where most of them spap off. If you get lucky and find the problem, then you have to weld the 2 cables back together.
I have this ongoing problem with my eg cluster. Swap temp/fuel gauges from another cluster or whatever is your best bet.
Goodluck buddy and LMK.

Re: (CSaddict)
took the whole unit out(fuel and temp) and found that one of the copper wires was broken. Would I be able to solder them back together or would there be a resistance problem by doing that?? I have another cluster but from an Automatic and don't want to use that in my car. Too bad you couldn't just pull the needle off and swap them over. anyways, would soldering work??

Re: (SOHCex20)
also, are all 4 terminals going to have a copper wire going to them?? To me I only see a wire going to 3 of the terminals, which are the three that have the screws going into them in the back of the cluster. just wondering

Re: (JDM-EJ1)
I'm thinknig about just getting a JDM cluster, and I found one of those GPS units that plug and play right into a 96-00 EK. Those are bad *** if you ask me. I guess this just gives me a reason to upgrade For now I soldered it to the post it broke off of and am going to give it a shot this afternoon on lunch.

Thats what i said, you can solder them back together and they will work just fine, but then off course getting a new cluster or for that matter just replacing the fuel and temperature gauge would be much easier.
If you cant solder then tie the cables back up by using a piece of copper wire from inside a reguler thin 18 gauge.

Re: (AdamQ3B85)
Thats what I ended up doing. The wire broke away from the pin, so I pulled a little of it up and then down and around the post and soldered it to it. works just fine as of now.

Re: (Integra_indisguised)
oh, no it works fine now, I'm just saying, one thing seems to always lead to another. Lifted the head 2 weeks ago, fuel gauge takes a ****, had a vac leak in my FPR hose, like a tiny tiny hole, IACV was dirty as hell and cleaned it and sure enough, idles like a champ, and so on. Haha seems like I can never get caught up.
