fuel consumption?
i have a 92 civic coupe with a B16 type-r internals swap. with a AEM cold air AEM fuel rail upgraded fuel lines, V-tech timer and a complete Apex-i exhaust. My ca eats up gas like ther is no tomorrow and i know thats expected with this motor and all the accesories but a friend told me if i turn down the fuel pressure it will help save gas.? is that true? and if im doing that would i expect a horsepower loss to?

Re: fuel consumption? (t0p_sh0tta)
a v-tech timer is a device that you can set a certain rpm that your v-tech kick's in instead of the stock 5500 rpm. when i droped that motor in i didnt cut any corners. im running a p30 ecu

take out your "v-tech timer" and flush it down the toilet. your car will see mileage gains as soon as you do that. Your car feel much better if you let vtec engage at 5800 or whatever the stock engagement is for the b16, because thats where honda set it to kick in to run best. If your ecu is not chipped, i would have it chipped to stock 99-00 si specs, and then have it professionally tuned from there, varying slightly to accomodate your swapped internals.
There is no reason to have vtec engage early. its not mad tyte and it doesnt give you horsepower.

it's "VTEC Controller" and even with Type-R internals you should leave the VTEC engagment at stock until you can get it tuned right. I had a B16 in a 92 hatch and got 30 mpg (I live in WA) with intake and exhaust. No reason you shouldnt get somewhere around there

Of course Vtec is better at lower RPM that 5800 Stock....
Just that you cant go crazy and drop it to much!
You put Vtec according to What you have... just that when you put the vtec at lower RPM's you have you put the timing according to were VTEC is Going to engage..
Vtec work with oil pressure, The Only Reason that Honda Engineers put Vtec To Engage at 5800 RPM's Is because so when your in the highway Vtec doesn’t turn on every 2 sec at low oil pressure...
At 5800 RMP's the oil pressure is high enough So it doesn’t matter if your not at
full throttle ….

^^^ ERRRR okay, i guess i'll take your advice and set my vtec to engage at 3800 rpm then huh? that'll do the trick
