front sway bar bushing failure after being raised on a hoist?
I have a 98 Acura EL (AKA honda civic) I had some front brake/rotor work done. When leaving the lot I noted an unusual creaking noise. I backed back up to the service bay. After listening for a moment the mechanic told me I need to replace the front sway bar bushings. He said raising the car on a hoist can put strain on the bushings and sway bar and cause them to fail. ???? Of course for $115.00 for parts and 3 hours of labour he said he could fix the problem.
Am I being taken? Certainly I now have a problem with the sway bar - but what caused this failure? The car was ony in the bay for 2 hours when he refaced the rotors.
I would appreciate any insight.
Thanks -- Mandy

Get a new mechanic. Bushings are easy to replace yourself if you have a press, which I doubt you do :/. I have never heard of bushings failing b/c of the car being on a lift.

BS, lifting both wheels at the same time on a lift will not put any strain on the sway bar bushings or endlink bushings. IF it is the bushings making the noise, it is probably more by chance that they are making noise after your brake job.
