front speakers tweeters crossover wiring question
I bought a used civic ex coupe with an aftermarket radio, but worn out stock front speakers. I'm just going to get some cheap front speakers. What I'm trying to find out is; if there is a crossover somewhere in the wiring, where it is and do I have to rewire to remove the crossover?
Do I need to worry about this? Can I just hook up some new 6.5 speakers to the orginal wiring and be fine? I'd rather not pay for seperates and not sure if the factory tweeter is shot. I do know the factory speaker is bad.

Re: front speakers tweeters crossover wiring question
According to the wiring diagram there is no separate crossover. It is likely that there is simply a crossover built onto the actual tweeter itself. Either way you can simply replace the stock 6.5" speaker and not worry about there being any kind of crossover in the system.
So, buy your 6.5" speakers and bolt them onto the car. Just be prepared for a little bit of work because it isn't likely that the 6.5" aftermarket speakers will fit without some modification to the speaker bracket, door, or mounting system.

no i dont think oem has a crossover but most aftermarkets do.
your going to have to cut the basket out of the door pannle to get the mid to fit and you will also have to do some modification to where the tweeters goes in.
replace them all.... if you dont you may regrat it later.

Re: front speakers tweeters crossover wiring question
Thanks for the answer.
I found at least two speakers that fit in the front with absolutely no modification other than the wiring.
JVC cs-v625 two way $37.95 at walmart.
Pioneer ts-a1673r three way $79 at best buy.
I didn't buy this one but I think would fit,
Pioneer ts-g1642r $51 at best buy.
Of course you can get all of these a lot cheaper online.
The car came with a kenwood headunit and some pioneer ts-a741p 6.5" speakers in the rear deck. The stock front speakers are shot, not sure why they didn't replace all of the speakers.

hmm you dont see civics with 6.5s in the rear very offen.
forget walmart...
if you like the sound of the rear speakers buy a set, then get on crutchfeild and pickup a set of tweeters and crossovers.
seperates sound better thats the only reason i say to buy the whole set. stock speakers are ok to a certain point.

Re: front speakers tweeters crossover wiring question
I'm sure they sound better, but I just want cheap speakers that I can hear and sound semi decent. The JVC walmart speakers would work great for someone on a budget. I ordered the three way pioneers off amazon for $46. I'm going to just unplug the tweeters.
The mounting for the rear speakers looks stock. Not sure why they are 6.5", but they are.
Picture is of a 6.5" pioneer rear speaker in the car and a stock 6.5 front speaker in the mounting bracket.

Haha. I'm actually running those $38 JVC's from wal-mart right now. Fit without modification and sound decent. Bought the car with 1 stock speaker in the front. Needed a cheap replacement and they work just fine.
