front end knock, axle shaft??

engine is making a knocking noise when its in gear and turning left. i think its the axle shaft but i'm not completely sure. how do i diagnose/fix this?? i'm planning an engine swap from h-motors online soon. would it be worth the extra money to get the complete swap

ok, the knocking was subtle at first but now its really loud, and jerks the steering wheel. i was going to race on it tomorrow but now i dont' know. any suggestions? race or no race? axle or not the axle?? ANYONE??

Firstly, I'd never race a car I wasn't sure was 100% there. Does the sound come only under acceleration or does it also happen under braking? Have you hit any potholes or anything major recently? Are your motor mounts in good shape, and if so is all of your suspension secure? Check everything under the car with a light, make sure nothing is loose.
