friends 93 ej coupe first gear goes to 40 sec goes to 80 third goes to 120?
hey my friend has a stock ej coupe and when he ripps it, he can get up to 40 in first gear and 80 in second and 120 in third. he just bought the car, are the gear ratios messed up?

let me guess cx tranny, usual signs I think dx trannies would do the same compared with a vtec motor, or not.

thats not a dx tranny, and ive heard the cx are the same as dx. my dx goes 35 in 1st, 70 in second, 100 in third, 120 in fourth, and i got to 131 in 5th once. those sound like the crx hf gears to me. i had an 88 crx hf for about a year, and it ran like what your is, 40 in 1st, 80 in second, etc..

straight from my 93 civic coupe's owners manual..taken from page 94 under driving...
these are the maximum speeds for each gear...
dx
1st - 32mph
2nd - 59mph
3rd - 88mph
4th - 112mph
5th - top speed
ex
1st - 34mph
2nd - 58mph
3rd - 89mph
4th - top speed
5th - top speed
now you probably have some fucked up tranny in your car or your speedo is wayyyy off...tell your homie to take off his 17's so the speedo can read right..

i had a dx tranny on my zc vtec and i could do the same.. a lil more reading what the tach was giving me it kinda sucked it made my car way slower about over a sec slower then it was before i blew the 92 95 vtec tranny i hear that is one of the best geared tranny;s also maybe he should get one .. its not that expensive im sure his car will run alot better.

if he had a huge as turbo it would have more then enough time to spool that would be the best reason to keep that tranny everyone tried to tell me to keep it too but i was like f;;; that s''' man it was too slow for me my launches were like doo doo droppings that is one of the reasons why i rushed my swap...

17's would make the Speedo read LOWER. So you just contributed nothing.
Is the car a ex or dx/lx. A ex motor with Dx trans would be about that long. Almost. Could possibly be a cx trans.

Negative. This is about the tranny, nothing to do with the actual speed the car is moving. If his speedo says he is doin 40mph in 1st...the Rim size has nothing to do with that. If the car was clocked by radar then it's a different story.
Want an example?...Jack the car up, put it in first and see what the speedo says at redline. Thank you.
