Friend wants to buy a project civic hatch
he has around 5k total to spend on it and put a new engine in.
What engines will fit into about a 92 hatch.

well the swap will be able to be done for free... all he needs to pay for is the car and the engine.

If your friend doesn't know what motors can be swapped in a hatch, tell him to do some research before doing it..

dude seriously, if you have to ask what goes in a 92 hatch i dont think you should be attempting this.

h22 will fit with a mount kit...do a search, you're most likely to find out everything you need to know

you could... get a car with a fairly good body, the worse off the engine, the cheaper it will be. then find one of the OBD1 B series engines... B16 or B18, don't do an H22, too much work, too expensive for what you are planning. with this, depending on how much you pay for your car, you will certainly have enough money. I would say $2000-3000 for the car, spend the rest on a swap. keep in mind you could get a non-VTEC B18B engine from an integra LS and build that up (that would be very cheap). then you could add a GS-R head when the time was right. or just get a B18C1 to begin with-but those are expensive.
My guess: B16A1 swap, it is also the lightest of the bunch, has VTEC, has a prolific number of parts, and it is in your budget.

hehe, I wonder how many of us started out saying, "oh ya, Ill just spend 5 grand and have a nice little car"? It boggles the mind how much you can spend on these damn cars.

yeah but honestly, if you did get a car as cheap as $1000, you would have a lot of money left over.... as long as you spent it right your cash could take you a long way...
