Friend has a Tubo Si running 9.5lbs of boost....now engine is making a knoocking noise...
What could be making this knocking noise? He installed his turbo 1 1/2 weeks ago.

he detonated and either, spun a rod bearing, or crushed a rod bearing. i give him a maximum of two weeks before the crank is trashed and has to be replaced. either way he needs to stop driving it now and get it fixed. he needs to get all new rod bearings to take care of that and then figure out why the hell its detonating.

Well I doubt this is the case, but if he just recently cranked up the boost on the turbo, maybe he just needs a higher octane gas. Sorry, I know this is obvious but what the heck.

sounds like he killed a rod bearing...why the hell was he running so much boost.

9.5 isnt much...even on his stock motor...i wouldent drive daily on it tho, and its funny how u guys know exactly what it is without hearing it...it could be a small knock, or a large knock
small knock = needs better gas
large knock = threw a rod most likely

I have the Greddy kit on my 2000 Si, and I have been running 7 psi for 2 months. And 2 weeks ago, I turned it up to 10. I have had no problems whatsoever, and it pulls incredibly hard. But I also have Hondata, and 440 injectors, and I have been tuning my setup every chance I get to insure that my fuel delivery is on point. My friend who works on Hondas knows nothing about Hondata, but he tells me that I will definitely blow my engine any day now. What do you guys think? Should I save the 10 psi for the track and just stick with 7-8 daily? I would like to build my bottom end this summer/fall and run 15 psi daily, but thats not for a while.

He took it to the shop tonight, he found out that the 4th cylinder was getting NO gas at all(jesus)! The guy that installed it for him is a VW mechanic and he wired it wrong or something like that (didn't get the full story). It's 1,000 to fix although the place he took it to is a rip off!
