well, i threw a cel. . when i went to check it i took the plug thing out of the green rubber case. . then i was an idiot and tried to start my car (please dont ask me why hah ) but i got a sputter then smoke came out of under my hood. when i popped it. . all my grounds were smoking. . and now have black spots all over the ends. . . now it doesnt turn over . it just clicks, and so i need new ground wires but do i need to replace my starter or alternator? thanks in advance for any help!!

Start with he ground wires. Your starter isn't engaging do to the bad grounds.

I'm still confused why you fried the grounds. Can anyone else elaborate on this

can you explain why the grounds fried?

you can loop the ground for the CEL plug and still have the car running so i dont know what you did?

check all the fuses first

did you use the 2 wire brown plug to check the codes?

yeah i used the two wire brown plug, . . i dont know what happened! i need to check the fuses though.. didnt do that.

Umm...the 2-pin connector in that green rubber plug can be shorted while the car is started. It's how you set the timing anyway. Plus, one of those wires is actually a ground.

So, if all you did was jump the service connector and tried starting your car and your grounds fried, then you're leaving a piece of the story out.

Did you have ALL of the grounds connected initially? Battery-chassis, tranny-chassis, valve cover (power steering pump)-chassis and the thermostat?

im really not. . but a couple days before that. . i was trying to connect my ground to the battery and it kept sparking but i couldnt figure out why. . it stopped after me moving all my tools off my fenders. .

but yeah thats exactly what i did. . jumped it with the 2-pin open. .
help me. . what can i do to fix it

Moving tools off of the fender would imply some work was being done. What were you doing?

Simply checking for ECU codes will not cause the problem you have. I have a stock 99 Civic hatch and when re-connecting the battery terminal, it does a quick spark too.

Is your car stock? What's the setup?

i just finished up putting my turbo on and putting in a clutch. . . i have a t3 turbo'd d16z6. . the z6 is stock. . so what do you think the problem is . . did i forget about my tranny ground. . ? thats what im thinking was touching something when i tried starting it. . and it has nothing to do with me having the 2 pin plug out of the rubber holder. .? am i right? or maybe its the fuses?

Yes, the 2-pin connector has nothing to do with it.
