Icon6 Fresh swap 98 d16y8 into 93 EG any info?

I just finished doing this swap, I put a D16Y8 out of a 98 civic with a manual trans into a 93 civic EG. I had to do quite a bit of tedious b/s (wiring and what have you....) I actually had two whole cars to work with. My wrecked, totalled, and non-rebuildable 98 (Got it branded, and got rear ended.........twice...... ) Anyways....I had a 93 EG with 268,000 miles, maybe even more because there was a loose wiring connection on the speedometer wiring (found this while inside doing the swap..lol) causing it to intermittently work....However, this EG has a CLEAN TITLE!! So I pulled the old 90hp turd out, and cobbled the 127hp Y8 in. It only had about 100,000 miles....I had a P28 ECU from a different running/driving Z6 swapped civic I own, I stole that out and will need to replace it later...hahaha. Anyways, I used the whole wiring loom from the 93, which was a VX which helped cause it was already wired for VTEC. I wired the dizzy plugs from the D15Z1 out of the 93 onto the Y8 Dizzy, which was pretty straightforward actually on the newer cars it is one plug, on the older it is two plugs (they just combined the two together in later models) put the alternator from the Z1 on the Y8 block, and rewired the injectors so I could make the engine run as OBD1. This was hours of tedious work and I still need to button up a few things wiring wise. However, I did actually get the engine/trans into the car, and got it to run and rev out fully with no problems. No bips bops pops or anything...I still need to wire a jumper from A4 to D6 on the P28 ecu to make VTEC work on the Y8 (correct me if I'm wrong) and I have to finish buttoning up the axles, and suspension and such, and see how everything works tomorrow. I will test it and work out all the bugs and drive it and let you all know how it goes.

*edit* oh, and I forgot to add, This is only my second Honda engine transplant altogether, and my first time swapping a different generation of car's engine into and older model.....LOL!

I originally put the Y8 in my silver car, the 98. I pulled a Y7/Y8 mini-me that was running turbo on high compression.....I ran it for about 30,000 miles maybe 35,000 and the bottom end went to crap....I ended up getting rear-ended in my 98, totalling it (again) :*( and finishing it off. I'm going to strip it down to a bare shell and sell it to the scrap metal people or something......I'm also taking the full suspension swap and using it on my other car >.< So much work I have already done......and I have to start from scratch and do it all over again! UGH!

Any suggestions, comments, concerns, anything I may have forgotten or ANYTHING please feel free to let me know. PM me or post up on this topic I don't care either way

Good job, did you have any specific questions? Sounds like everything went great.

Actually yes. I have it in, and I drove it home tonight. But it kind of bogs at lower rpms. I have to ease into the throttle, otherwise it almost sounds like a Miss. I also don't think it is hitting VTEC, but I need to jump a wire from A4 to D6 on the P28 ECU....Also it runs like absolute **** when it is cold, but once warmed up it runs quite well, just a little bogging, sluggishness at lower rpms like 1500-2500. It seems to rev fine in neutral, free revving...but when I engage the clutch and take off it bogs and barely wants to take off....

I'm not positive what to do, but I do have a few things to check, double check, and probably button them up.

Oh and my dumbass forgot to ask, is the VTEC pressure switch what I would buy in order to NOT have to jump a wire? or........lmfao...any info helps

Otherwise it Runs better than the old turd D15Z1 with a million miles >.> LOL!

OHHHH and I'm retarded, I did NOT do the 4 wire 02 conversion....I had the old 02 sensor from my D15Z1, and just plugged it into the harness. Will this not be giving an accurate reading? Should I just wire in a 4 wire 02 sensor, and my car was already wired for VTEC since it was a VTEC-E, right? or do I need to run a wire from A4 to the Vtec Soleniod, and where is the VTEC pressure switch located on the Y8?....

I'm actually not quite positive how to check them. I never owned OBD1 before, but I think I remember something about the two plugs by the ECU/kickpanel... Jump a wire or paper clip from the two terminals?

Okay, so I went and jumped the plug and got my codes to start flashing. I got the code 6, which makes sense because that is the water temp sensor.......Only code I am throwing, and obviously the culprit behind this running like crap when cold........

Any ideas, maybe I missed a plug, or my sensor is just malfunctioning on the engine I just put in.....

Which Mini-Me? A lot of people are doing some frankenstein-*** mini-me's lol!

I prefer the y7 block with a y8 head. It makes damn good compression, and with the right build on your block it will run like a raped ape for a good 100-150k

I put about 35,000 HARD miles on a y7/y8 mini-me that damn near had the bottom end boosted out of it on 19 PSI at 10-1 or 11-1 compression or whatever...... LOL!

The Block and head had been milled, and resurfaced to make EVEN MORE compression too.....I think I would be rolling around with this look on my face with that crazy *** setup!

Oh, and I ran a compression Test and it was WAAY high....but if I remember correctly 180 185 185 180 or something like that.....insanity for a single cam I say :O
