Default freight cost for shipping a usdm h22a1 cost 600-900 dollars!!!?!?!?!?!?

I called a couple freight places, got some quotes. heres whats going on, I want to buy this usdm h22a1 for cheap complete swap for any car, which is for my hatch well anyways what is stopping me from buying it, is the cost of shipping. those freight places i called, their quotes ranged from 600-900 dollars for a 300 pound engine/tranny on a pallet. which requires lift gate, and had residential charges. motor is in AZ, and I am in NY, both are a residential address. But the only other way is Residential pick up and my work place will pick it out of the truck with the forklift. i asked for a quote, well it was a little cheaper but still not under 600. so i asked for a business to business quote, it got closer to 600 bucks.

My friend cant really get the engine out to a business address. Plus im not going to pay over 400 for shipping at all. since on ebay shipping is usually around 100-350 dollars. engine suppliers range from 100-350. 600-900 dollar is ******* insane!!

so... in order for me to get that engine, the price of shipping has to be under 400 dollars. and i want that H22A1! i would like to be able to know by tomorrow but i am not sure of which forum is the best for this subject. so i posted in hybrid forum and here. to try to get things speed up so i can hopefully to be able to send money out tomorrow or monday.

Not to rain on your engine swap but, rent a pickup or a minivan and add that plus your gas and see what $$$ you come up with. Freight companies are starting to add 'gas' surcharges to their trips because it cost them so much.

I would see if it would be worth your while to 'road trip' to arizona and go get your motor.

thats about right. oregon to los angeles to a residential is like 2 bills. go into a local business that you frequent and give the owner some money to use his address then shipping will be about 100-200 cheaper generally speaking... make a contract saying your just using his address and that you will pay for all costs once the truck comes that way you everything is upfront and both parties agree so you can do it again if need be and the owner makes some money also..i bet a $50 dollar bill will do.

thats what i did once.

well, i did try to caculate the gas cost for a road trip to pick it up, and the cost for gas alone was in the 800 dollar range. that is for both ways. so that is expensive.

and i did ask for a quote for business, from a place where there is a loading dock, where they put the engine in. they haul it all way to NY, to my work place where there is also a loading dock, where we will just pull it out with the forklift. the best price was 545 dollars. which is impossible for my friend with the h22a1 to do that method of shipping.

maybe ill go and ask my boss at work or the owner and see if i can contact their shipper and see what they can do... i dont know if they would be willing to do that because they are a busy place. but i will check with them anyways tomorrow, but i am still trying to see if anybody has a good company that they know will be cheaper than 400.

Gas shouldn't be that much. Try using a different vehicle....a V8 pickup isnt nesecary. Here is what I would do because I would have to see the engine before I bought it. I would get a one way flight (red eye) that I found really cheap. Then once out there rent a small car and drive it home. As long as you don't stain the car with the engine they will never know you beat the hell out of it. Should be cheaper....maybe. Either way its gonna be expensive, maybe you should look more local for one?

2004 Chevy pickup with 17.5 gal tank and 288 miles per tank, 2255 miles one way, which is 4510 miles round trip. 2.25 per gallon. about 30-40 buck a tank/per 288 miles, 15.659 times to stop (4510/288) so, round up, 16 times to stop, multiply by 40, equals 626.38 for total trip for gas alone. so i used wrong number from the paper, it is around 800+ total for the trip, gas including food, place to sleep.

lousiana is closer to LA, NY is way all the way to the east and north.

lol hauling a complete swap H22A1 in the trunk of a chevy cavalier for over 2000 miles would be um... super fun! with the rear wiggling left to right at 60-70mph.

i already seen pictures of it, and its not even above 1,500 dollars. its cheap cheap.. got a good deal from friend. just dont wanna say the cost.

Damn, if you are taking a Chevy pickup, take two buddies (hopefully its not a reg. cab *sausagefest*) and you can all drive shifts and save on the hotels that have showers. Who cares if you all will smell like *** when you get home...you will have a H22!

I had a integra 4 door shipped from PA for $800. I also had a B16 shipped from NY for 300.00 dollars. Try Watkins, they have pretty good prices.

gas mileage will be different in a full size van or a pickup truck - figure twice the distance in a vehicle that gets half of the mileage of most civics and accords....
