Default Freaky water temp... =\

Brief description: JDM D15B Vtec, with FPR and intake pipe. Chipped and reprogrammed P28 ECU. Radiator is full, overflow is full up to Max level line. No leaks.

Problem: Cruising at 80mph in 5th gear, temp is normal operating temp. Switching from 5th to 4th the water temp drops. It will drop about halfway between C and normal operating temp. The engine sounds the same, it still pulls like normal, nothing changes except the drop in temp on the gauge.

My thoughts: A combination of airflow from going 80mph, and the jump in RPM's from 5th to 4th gear causing a surge from the water pump to cool to engine. In which case there is no major problem and my cooling system is running clean. ...OR... The thermostat is stuck shut, and in increase in RPM's causes a slight surge, enough to pop open the thermostat and cool the engine. In which case I need to change my thermostat.
