Default freaking axle nut!!

well i couldnt get the passenger side nut to come off for anything!!! so i decided to cut it off. i have a grinder that cuts metal. Question is how would i go about cutting it off without messing up the spindles on the rotor?

did u try locking the tranny to prevent the axles from moving then with a 6ft bar brake that bolt???

impact gun?

theres alot more ways then just cutting it.. ur gunna run into problems and mostlikely expletive up the threads and have to get a new axle

do it right the first time

Been there. Had like a 5 ft cheater bar and it snapped the breaker bar. LOL. Good thing it was Craftsman, walked in and got another one. Heat up the axle nut!

heating the axle nut helps, but be careful how hot you get that area or you will destroy your wheel bearing.

I just had the same problem. Used impact gun w/150 psi max. I used a breaker bar w/ a screwdriver in the tranny. I had my fat 250 lb homeboy bounce on it (broke the breaker bar). Fed up, I took the whole hub assembly w/control arm off and my neibor used a 500psi max impact gun and zipped right off!!!

AXLES SUCK!

Good Luck

You could always put a stong screw driver in the rotor so it stops when it hits the caliper! just what i usally do

make sure the stake on the nut is not in and use a breaker bar. impact gun is always the easiest

been there and done all of that. i soaked it in PB blaster and liquid wrench for 1 week before i even started.

Breaker bars..been there. not working

im swaping my motor and i have new axles already. so ****** up the axle is the least of my worries. i just dont want to mess up the wheel bearing.

i might just go and get a whole freakin replacement.

Do it while your wheels are on the ground, have someone push on the brakes, and turn it loose. I used a small 4" long ratchet with a foot long bar that was on my Floor Jack to get it off, came off easy.

soak in some penetrating oil first, i prefer my snap on 1/2 impact, 800 ftlbs. will usually get it off...lol, if not, torch, then when decently hot, shoot the axle with wd40, that will cool the axle and not the nut, and contract the metal slightly, then use breaker bar, quickly.
good luck

hmm... did you forget to uncrimp the nut? I know on my 93 hatch you have to make an indent on the nut to make sure it doesn't come off-- maybe you over looked this? Also, I agree that this should be done while the wheels are on the ground-- it was a bit easier for me this way.

If you used a 1/2" Drive rachet handle w/ a breaker bar over it, the rachet handle will snap at the part where it connects the socket. Try a bigger size drive w/ the breaker bar. And grow some muscle.
