Yo dudes.
I have been searching the forums here and elsewhere about lightened flywheels, and seeing conflicting opinions. I don't know what to believe, really. My thinking says less weight around the crank = a good thing.

My '99 EX is a daily driver and i'm looking for a little boost in torque, particularly low and mid range. Other than FI / swapping, would this be the best way to help my low end.. and is it safe for the long run?

well with a lightened flywheel you arent going to gain torque... with a lighter flywheel it actually loses some off the line because it is getting to the high rpm where the real power is quicker. for daily driver i'd say stay away. if you do go with exedy stage 1 and fidanza lightened wheel. great feel and good performance for a decent price. but like i say for daily driver it think its a waste. but it your car so do what you want.

theoretically it would get more torque to the wheels if you look at the physics of it all. the problem is that it's not a significant amount.

if you're a vigorous driver like most enthusiats a 12-15lb flywheel may help 0-60 or 60-100 but it's not gonna be that V6 low-end feel that everyone wants out of a inline four. also i wouldn't put one in anyway unless you NEED a clutch or rear main seal.

i think the best way to get more torque down low is by carfully matching manifolds and runner lengths. this takes more thinking that bolting on parts from companies with really good marketing departments, but it's the way the pros and good amatures do it.

Actually, my clutch is going to need replacement in the near future. I was at a honda/acura repair shop that does a little performance work the other day and the guy told me that they could put a lightened flywheel on while they were at it and it got me thinking.

My stock flywheel is 18 lbs, yeah? I was thinking about putting on a 12 or 15. I don't plan at launching at 6000 rpm anytime soon.. ha ha. Would a 12 or 15 be a good compromise between 99999whp drag racer and daily driver?

I prefered 12 lbs in my lighter HB. I went to stock 15 lbs unit from a CX, street driving was alot easier, esp. since I'm driving 30k miles a year for my part-time courier job.

The only thing i hate about my flywheel is that i can't take it to palces where people have to drive like the car wash, and tire place cause they don't know how to drive it if their life depended on it. Gets on my nerves when they rev the **** out of it and stall soon after.
