Fix or put new engine?

Fix or put new engine?
Hey, first of all sorry If I'm posting in wrong section or If I didn't search correctly, but I tried looking and couldn't find an answer.
Here's what happened:
I just bough a 93 Del Sol with a bad head gasket(Blowing white from exhaust) It is an automatic and has a d15b7 engine. All stock. Well I've gotten a different quotes to replace the head gasket, and the best one so far has been 460 for labor and parts + everything else that might need to be fixed along with it. So they told me to plan on an extra 100 for the head to be re-surfaced, and possibly water & timing belt (extra 200-300) they said. So that bring me to a total of anywhere of 560 to 860. Engine has 180k miles on it.
So what would you guys recommend, fixing the parts, or getting a whole 'new' engine?
I'm pretty new to cars, I know my basics but haven't acquired much knowledge on swaps and such.
If you guys recommend getting a new engine, what engine can just be dropped in there without needing too many mods and not too much money? Would i have to get a new transmission too? All help will be greatly appreciated.

man it suck you have to pay a shop, you dont have any mechanic buddys (that know what they are doing) that could help you out?
i have done head gasket timingbelt water pump, and including resurface head on d-series for under $200 bucks, but thats doing labor myself

Well it all depends on what you do. Unless you want to convert to manual, I would just find another D series or fix the one you have. If you plan on converting to manual, I would recommend a B18, for lots of aftermarket, or a K20 for part availability since B series were dropped quite a while ago.
A D16Z6 might have a tad more pep in its step, I am not sure what the torque converters in the transmissions hold up to though. Should be pretty direct swap.
Good Luck

Yeah, no mechanic buddies.... I have one but he's busy 24/7 and wouldn't be able to get to do it for a while... And this is my commute car. I would want to do a manual swap, but I'm at a 1k limit right now. Overpriced shops.. and thats the cheapest I've found too :/ others have been asking 800 just for head gasket..

And I'm in Utah :/ if anyone around here. let me know.
I Just found a D16z6 with manual transmission for 500 on my local classifieds. Suggestions? Would that just be dropped easily without having to change transmission or anything? How much would labor be?

Damn, I wouldn't even know where to start.... I would try, but I doubt I even have the tools, and I need to get it back on the road in a week, due to it being my only car. Do you guys know if that d16z6 can just be dropped there? Even tho its v-tec?

Re: Fix or put new engine?
I've been getting quotes for a swap of about 1000+
but its definitely something I plan on doing.
So what kind of engine can just be dropped in there right now, keeping the same transmission (for now)
