first time at the track
well first time at the track, didn't run times i wanted, comparing numbers i've seen other people have posted. i know i can work on 60' and reaction times. was only able to get in 2 runs since we got there late. but here's the setup
car
92 vx
engine
obd1 usdm gsr w/96gsr tranny
skunk 1 cams
hks intake cam gear
open intake
dc 4-1 headers
full exhaust (2.25 in custom piping w/cat and resonator)
stock obd1 p72 w/vafc2 (vtec at 5300)
full interior(including spare), 99 si rims w/cheapo tires but decent tread. car running rich, timing set way back, untuned.
was wondering how much of a difference would've it had made if i went with a b16 tranny with closer gearing
first run
reaction: .631
60': 2.493
et: 16.150
mph: 86.223
second run
reaction: .584
60': 2.403
et: 15.728
mph: 90.513

considering that it was your first time, not bad at all. invest in better street tires and practice launching at different rpm's. gutting will also help a tiny bit. b16 tranny will also help too.

That's **** poor, dude. You're pulling 2.4 60's and "good" reaction times which - to me - says you're too worried about getting out of the hole and not worried enough about feathering the clutch and hitting your shift points. Also, feather the 1-2 shift and make sure you're shifting 100-200rpm before you think you should so you stay away from the rev limiter.

just practice driving. My first time at the track I busted out a **** poor 14.5 with 185whp and 156ft/lbs on tap in an eg/si. Just keep practicing and playing with your setup(tire pressures/shocks/bars)...............John

damn those times are horrible. keep practicing man. even i ran a 15.0 @ 94 mph with a completely stock b18c1 runnin open header on a del sol. that setup is good for low to mid 14s, or even better depending on the driver.

Re: first time at the track (whal3_p3nis)
yeah that's my first time at the track. hear lacr is usually a slower track anyway, but not trying to use that as my excuse. just weird to see that crappy of times after seeing people put high 13s on what they say are stock b16's. so reaction times and 60' times are okay? well i'm running stock suspension. tein s tech springs in the front, stock rears, stock shocks. was hoping to get more runs in, but got there late. just glad that i improved after the first run (which forgot to mention did have one passenger as well, another 200 lbs) first run feathered a little too high right before the last yellow and got some wheel hop. need to get my ecu check, seem to cut around 7900, need to see why it's not letting me hit 8200.

oh, car is NOT tuned. stated untuned, and is running rich. i guess was thinking reaction that great since on the second run, guy hit a .104 or so on the reaction time. got out of the hole real well, got about 2-3 cars in front of me, and towards the end thought i'd end up catching him, but ending up losing by half a car length.

15.4 with a stock eg. you're my hero hahaha. that's pretty quick if you ask me. my boy with a stock gsr 92 hatchback ran 14.4's. you just need to practice your launching and **** and you'll be hanging with the rest.

yah sorry 2 say but your times suck.. I had a stock 00 gsr swap running on a virgin p28. stock exhaust. ebay intake. my first run was a 15.4... Very 1st time at the track . i bogged at light and i spun thru 3rd oh.. i had 99-00 si's too bad tires also. about 3rd time around 2nd run was 15.1 i let air out .. running bout 19psi i think. messed with my timing a bit. i started launching higher and grippn a lil better my best run outta 6 was a 14.5... not bad for stock. went back out with drag radials.. on front and a chipped ecu. busted a 13.7 sold car : /

At Heartland Park Topeka, they display reation time as how far past .500 it was. So that .104 he's talking about would be a .604 at some tracks...dunno if that helps.
I found it immensely helpful playing Nitto 1320 Challenge on the computer, getting used to the tree and having to react...my first night out at the track, driving my friend's Probe, I got a reaction time of .052 (or .5052 depending on how you look at it). Unfortunately his car still ran a 17.2
I wouldn't consider myself an exceptional drag racer or anything but repetition can only help.

Re: first time at the track (Berman)
Dont sweat it, all you need is more practice.
I took my car out the track for the first time the other day and the best I got out of it was 15.0 with a B18C (GSR) I/H/E. That was my third run though, first try was 15.6...
Practice, practice, practice.... And get rid of that passenger.
