first or second gen b16 in 93 delsol?
i have a 93 delsol (with d16z6, going on 200k miles) and i am planning on doing an engine swap at the end of the year. i was wondering what was the difference between the first and second gen b16's? which do you suggest i get? i will have about $2500 for this swap. this is mostly for "spririted" daily driving, not really into building an all out drag or auto-x. and if i get a b16, would i have to replaice my old cai for one designed for a b-series motor? your input would be very much appreciated.

Suggestion: If I had to choose 1st or 2nd gen..... I'd go with the cheaper of the two or whatever one had less miles. I am not sure on the big diff between the 2 but it cant be much more than sensors. Don't take this as truth. I am speculating so someone else will jump in here. I can answer SOHC ?'s. But to answer the second question, yes, the CAI's will be different. good luck bro.

do a second gen
a first gen will cost almost as much to do anyway. dont be a cheapass do it right the first time
just for example
your gonna need
Ecu, hydro to cable conversion, and those 2 alone are gonna run you 500-700$

Second gen b16a = $2,100 + install = done
first gen b16a = $1,200 + misc parts + hassle = $2,100 or more = done. Then you have to consider the fact the first gen will be at least 12-15 years old and have many more miles. I don't care what anybody says, (30k my ***) show me a 12 year old engine that has only 30k on it. If it does it's been sitting unused for about 6 years at least....and thats not good
Do it rite the forst time and get a second gen b16a or usdm b16a3

OBD1=On board diagnostics type 1 (or something like that), and OBD2 is the second generation of the OBD stuff. It just a different diagnostics system that checks for more information so it can give you a better idea of wahts wrong!

Re: first or second gen b16 in 93 delsol? (Kamin)
last question, i promise . I was thinking about going with a usdm b16a3 second gen longblock because i can just buy aftermarket parts and put them on, instead of buying a complete swap and exchanging most parts for aftermarkets, thus wasting parts and money. so, what parts would i need to get the car running if i got a longblock? thanx for the help
