both are good, either way......
if you are looking for opinions..i would lean towards the EK for a couple of reasons
- structural integrity is up by 30%
- smoother ride
- newer
- little less prone to rust, especially coupes

Sounds like you have a good plan. There isn't anything wrong with starting with a B series, however, if you buy a car that swapped be careful. People hack the **** out of cars during swaps.
Ask lots of questions, the more you ask, the more likely they are to slip up, if their lieing about something.
Make sure the engine/trans have VIN tags, or if the people can prove where they came from. You don't want to buy a car with a stolen swap.

Hmmm . An EG sounds really tight , I have no problem with a EG or EK , I just want a fun project car ! It really depends on the price , but until i find a good one for a reasonable price its unanswered for now !

what deetz said.
get an EK. they're newer so parts should be easier to find. less rust. and when needed you can just run OBD1 ecu with a harness which is probably what'll happen.

Re: First project car ? EK or EG ?
There were some differences between 96-98 civic's, and 99-00. But, as I said, you can pretty use everything.
EG/DC suspension is very interchangeable, however, you start to run into issues, with other parts such as the interior, and body parts. Those cant be interchanged without a ton of work.
I like both, I have a 98 coupe, and I am going to try and start saving to buy a daily driver soon, that duty will most likely fall into the EG category due to cost, but I'd rather have a 96-00 ANY DAY!

my del sol i picked up for $500 and only qaurter size rust spots on the rear fender witch i fixed my self. cant even tell it was there. depends on where u live and how much money u want to spend on a project. i have a total of $800 in my car with new brakes, tie rods, alignment, header, muffler, cai, plugs and wires, fuel filter, and new trans fluid. im happy with the car and doin a motor swap soon. sorry about that long story but just letn u know what u could end up with under $1000 and be happy. i am James

When I chose, It came down to cost and then I ended up with two or three good hatch deals. I preferred an EG ultimately because of the shape over the EK.
