Default first post thought i would ask everyones opinion

i just picked up a 96 coupe. it has a d-16 y8 in it. my question is, is it worth it to sink money into rebuilding the y8?(has a f-ed up rod)but already has a dc header, underdrives, cam gear, fuel rail, and fpr all aem parts. or should i build the b18 i will be getting at the end of april? its from a 93 teg, about 100k on the clock. i could always put a vtec head on it, but either way i have to go through the bottom end of both motors. my goal is 200 to 250 all motor horsepower range. whats the better route? any and all opinions are appreciated. thanks

I would say that your hp goal is a little more realistic with the b series motor. Maybe sell off some of the d-series goodies in order to fund the b build. By the way....I am in Lorain.

cool a local. ive only had crx's up to this point and havnt done any swaps, so im a little intimidated by the amount of work involved. ill have the y8 out tomorrow. if i can get away with just a rod im gonna put it in and rock the y8 untill the b18 gets delevered. im gonna have to track down the rest of the swap though. im only getting a motor.

Doin' the swap is easy as long as you have all the parts up front. It can get frustrating when your working on something and then find that you don't have everything you need or have the incorrect parts. Man, it seems as if finding hydro b-series trannies is a tough task in our area. I am sure you know about Mammoth since you live in Elyria. Steve has a couple of Teg's there now, but I think they are mostly auto's. Good luck!!

i really dont want to boost it. i did that with an a6 i had, i didnt really like the unreliability of it. i want to do an all motor set up/ maybe a little juice. as far as knowing chad, im assuming your talking about the one that used to live in vermillion with the turbo civic. i know of him but i dont really know him personaly. i was speaking of my budy rico. he spells his s/n with the number 4 instead of the letters for.

i pmed you, but i dont think you can get it since your still a trial member. if your interested in running "a little juice" on your car, im selling a kit thats perfect for you. i used it on my d16 but now im boosted so I dont use it anymore. Its a NOS wet kit, 10lb bottle with an throttle body micro switch so it engauges according to your tb flab position. Its set of for 45 shot right now. I when i used the 45 shot I beat my brothers gsr with itr manifold and cams. let me know if your interested. looking to get 350

Yea, that is the Chad that I was referring to, but I guess his s/n on here is actually ChadB. I just thought that it was the same guy because Chad B had gotten some stickers made once that said Drift For Jesus.

97spoon civic where are you located? also can u post a few pics of it. i was talking with my budy(drift4jesus) tonite while we were pulling my y8. by the way it looks as though it hydrolocked, broke one rod bolt then proceded to beat the crap out of the bearing untill there was nothing left. good news is the crank jornal is fine and the rod is still strate. i'll have to have them resized but they are reusable. hell the cylinder wall is still got a nice crosshatch in it. anyway who has an opinion on a good piston(forged) for around 80$ a slug. i wana go 12:1 and spray. i think im gonna hit it with a 100 shot. do i need rods or are arp fasteners enough? thanks

oh did i mention that i picked up this car just the way it sits for a jvc am/fm dvd head deck for a car. haha i luv a good deal
