First Honda! 95 Del Sol S "the salty peanut"
This is technically my first running Honda. I had a crx a few years back but never had an engine in it. This Del Sol I got from my younger brother in-law. He called it peanut, he is not a car enthusiast or technician at all. I have built many cars, but this will be my first 4 cylinder sports car, and first Honda. I call it the salty peanut......you'll see why.

That's how I got it. It was also filled with trash in the trunk and interior. I had to remove both seats and most of the console to get all the trash out. I took off to the rocker covers, rear bumper, tail lights, and trunk lining to get a better look at the INFECTION.
After trash cleanup, Before vacuuming....

The ashtray is back in as well. The rear is covered with a tarp until this weekend. Then I will be fixing the door loop rust and hopefully the rocker and rear bumper area too. The quarters will have to wait a few weeks, since I NEED TO BUY some good size quarter patches. Let me know.Close to Worcester county, MA.

Just did a quick hand sand to see if there was good metal surrounding. Looks like a 6"x3" piece of steel will do the job.

So its been a while, I've only had a few days I was able to work on the car. Here's what I got done. I painted a first coat on the roll bar area after removing all the seals. Did the inside of the front wheel areas, and the inside edge of the trunk. Then I cut out some rust on the rear wheel arches to try my hand at fiberglass. Got them filled with foam, now just waiting for a warm day to do the fiberglass. Pics......

I'll be trimming the foam and fiberglassing over it next week. Also I have a nice price of oriental satin fabric that will be the new headliner for the targa top. If I like working with the fiberglass I will be repairing the lower portion of the quarters with it as well. The rockers will be steel.

Never seen a panel being repair this way. Is this something you're experimenting, or something you've experienced doing? Just curious, wanna see the outcome.

had a 86 lude once. def a rust bucket. the windows had been spray painted, too cheap for window tint i guess, and the wheel actually fell off while i was driving it. i put 20,000 hard miles on that thing. a18 was a beast for a daul carb setup. anyway, traded it for a 5 inch sun pro tach when i got through with it . (dont hate on the tach, it was the late 90's.)

Get some naval jelly. It will chemically stop and turn the rust to ferric-phosphate which can be finished over. You will have to remove severely damaged metal, but I have done wonders with naval jelly and some fiberglass mesh. Spend $30 on a respirator at home cheapo. Your lungs are worth it.
The foam seems like a good idea to form a sculpt-able base for the fiberglass.

Wow and I thought my last two cars have had a lot of rust! Where do you live? Looks like the type of rust we get up here in Canada

Sorry been a while, Dont have much time to work on it. The foam is in no way structural, it is actually removed after the glass hardens. The glass is 6 mats thick, I'm confident it will hold. Especially when coated in short hair. got all the bondo off the driverrs side. Cut out the rust and patched the rocker areas with 1/8 inch plate And primer. I'll be doing por-15 on it before I'm finished. I'm in mass, this could be a Canadian car though, i got it for a couple hundred.
