First ever trip to the dragstrip - Come tell me what I did wrong.
I went to the dragstrip at Gateway Intl Raceway for the first time today - never drag raced before. I think this setup should be running better times than I got, but I'm not sure if something's wrong with my car or I'm just a horrible driver (totally possible).
This is a 00 EX coupe with full interior, AC, sunroof. Engine is an 01 B18C1 with a B16 tranny. Stock everything else. Yokohama Avid H4S allseason performance tires. I had the spare tire and jack out for this, and the car was empty. I did have over 1/2 tank of fuel though, because I didn't know I'd be going to the track until last night.
Here are my times.
First run:
R/T: .636
60': 2.626
330: 7.011
1/8: 10.573
MPH: 69.02
1000: 13.613
1/4: 16.2
MPH: 87.04
Second run:
R/T: .126
60': 2.645
330: 6.838
1/8: 10.384
MPH: 69.41
1000: 13.421
1/4: 16.002
MPH: 87.00
The first run was obviously bad, I had a **** poor reaction time. I didn't know what to expect from the tree, and dumped my clutch on green at 1500 rpm. Also didn't do a burnout first. The second run, I did get a burnout, had time to stop and think, launched on last yellow at around 4000 rpm. I spun all the way through first, and part of second.
So, my biggest question, is how come my 60 foot is about equal between a granny launch, and what I thought was a decent launch? What should I be launching at? Why is my second run only .198 better than my first? Did I just have the gas tank too full? Any other comments/ideas?

Dont worry about the times on your first runs at the track. Reaction time has nothing to do with your ET. But your 60ft is bad and is why I think you had a bad time.
My time dropped more than half a second once I got my 60ft down. I had a 2.7 60ft and went 14.4 and had a 2.2 60ft and went 13.8.
The only difference between the runs is that I did a better burnout on the second pass than the first one.
I have Falken ziex 912's

i notice you said you spun 1st n 2nd, so im guessing you dumped the clutch? Try to preload and slip just a little off the line. I preload and slip when i launch my turbo d16 (vitara/eagle bottom end and .63 trim t3/t4) off the line and stayed with a gt stang with d/r's until 2nd gear

Practice practice practice, My first time to the track i ran a best of 16.2 in a del sol with a z6 with 3/4 tank of gas. So i don't think your amount of gas has much to do with it. Practice getting your 60ft times down and make sure your car is running in tip top shape!

it takes time to get better and better, you'll soon find out how to shift well and have better launches and learn the feel of your car.

Yeah man, if it is your first time at the strip, then don't worry too much about it, just keep going and practicing and you'll see how much better you get as time comes.. Have fun and GL ..

Yes, I dumped the clutch. First time at 1500 lol, the second time at 4000, right foot to the floor both times. I just revved it to 4000, then dumped the clutch and stabbed the gas to the floor. Guess I was a little jumpy. So you're saying I should slip it some... what about throttle? Should I try to feather it a little, or go full throttle?
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm not sure I'll make it out to the strip again this year before they close, but I'm definitely addicted now.
My consolation is that the guy next to me in a brand new Evo 9 was running 15 solid all day.

Re: (Vindicator9000)
If you feel wheelspin on the dragstrip get out of it until you don't feel wheelspin.... experiment with just how much you can get into it in 1st and 2nd without spinning - that is where you'll run your best times.
I recently went 16.2 with a bone stock 93 coupe that had a wore out smoke machine d15b7 (287k miles original motor) because I know how to do a good burnout and launch hard without spinning. A clutch that will slip just a slight slight bit out of the hole is your friend at the track, it saves your drivetrain and keeps you from spinning when launching at 4-6k revs. Don't be afraid to take some dukies with you and hold your car in 2nd gear at the burnout box for 10 seconds. People will laugh until you kill them out of the hole.

Here's what you're doing wrong:
1: Drag racing
2: Drag racing in a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE HONDA nonetheless
3: Your FWD Honda is N/A
4: You ran a 16 second 1/4 mile, embarrassing much?
there you go.

Re: (Vindicator9000)
it just takes practice as mentioned, but heres what i do. Hold the e-brake at the line and hold the throttle around 4k. Then let out on the clutch till it barely engauges and you feel the back end squat. Right before the green light just back your foot off the clutch fairly quick, dont dump it. When your off the clutch all way the way (which might be like half a sec after the light you launch...its quick) put the gas to the floor. When done correctly its fairly hard for it to just break loose on a fairly stock n/a car.

You arent going to be hitting geat times with your setup, I was running High 12s with Nitrous on my B18 EK.
Do you have a GSR or an Si tranny? You said both? I have a GSR tranny, and if you have an Si, I would def upgrade to the shorter gear ratios of either the GSR or ITR.

And you're running 700HP turbo in a FWD Honda... if you're not drag racing, then are you just hardparking it? Not all of us are interested in dumping 10 grand into a $2000 car so we can run 12s and still get spanked by 700hp RWD domestics running 10s with 2 grand in them.
My car gets driven 140+ miles a day, and I'm interested in getting the most out of my swap. Your comment was neither helpful nor wanted, so [freak] off, hater.

I'm not expecting great times, but I was hoping for low 15s at least, and I didn't think high 14s should be impossible based on similar setups in the 'post your timesheet' thread.
I have a GSR engine with an Si tranny. The engine is an 01 B18C1, the tranny is from a Civic Si.

Preloading is a good idea, but launching on stock tires at 4000? Seriously? Since you're new to racing the strip, leave at idle. Don't just dump the clutch and slam it to the floor. Let the clutch out and ease into the gas. You'll get a feel for how your car will launch then. If it feels like the track will take more, try launching at a higher RPM. Let a little air out of the tires if you're running street treads. Don't get into the water. Do a small burnout just to clean the tires off. Depending on the street tires, heating them is pointless. Also, when it starts spinning, don't hold it to the floor. 2.6-2.7 60 foots aren't that great on street tires, regardless of motor/car. I have close to 300 WHP and can cut 2.2 60's on street tires.

You must be smoking way too much pole.
