Default final drive compatibility

can the 3.25 final drive from a crx hf fit in a hydro ek cx tranny? I know the fd is lower and was thinking about it to conserve fuel.

Does it make a difference that the final gear itself is a much smaller dimater (I'm assuming)

ohh ok thanks the website I had looked at published it as the 3.7 Is there any problem with upgraded to say the 4.2 in the ex? Will there be space issues or will I have to ground down the inside of the tranny?

67/18 when I counted my 96 cx final drive

cx shares the same transmission as the same year vtec-e model.

92-95 cx / vx is the same
96-00 cx / hx is the same

3.25 is found in some crx hf's But it's pointless to try to get that to work in a hydro case. Because by the time that you do all that, you could have bought either a vx/cx final drive from either bone or me for very cheap.

I think I have two of these things. Wait, I am getting a vx tranny tonight for free, so I have three of these things.

Not worth putting a 3.25 in any transmission, because it will be easier to find one of those vx boat anchors that honda calls a transmission.

Because of the confusion with cx/vx and cx/hx transmissions I always try to refer to the 92-95 cx as a vx transmission. While refering to a 96-00 cx as a hx transmission.

92-95 vx gears are far apart from each other with the 3.25 final drive
remember, these cars had 13s on them. And didn't make any power past 4k rpm.

96-00 hx gears are the same as 96-00 dx gears, but with the 3.7222 final drive instead of a 4.058

vx = (65/20) 3.25
hx = (67/18) 3.722222222222222222222222222222222222222222222222 2222222222222222222
dx = (69/17) 4.0588235294117647058823529411765
ex = (68/16) 4.25

the difference is like 200rpm at 80mph in 5th gear between the final drives. Not enough to make a difference. The only real advantage is if you had a hx or vx engine with the lean burn and say you were doing LOTS of traveling on flat ground at a speed that was say 100rpm higher than where vtec engages.

257 miles, 5.3 gallons

4.25 FD and .771 5th gear, 3200 rpm and 65 mph.

Wait for the 60 mpg attempt in the fall
