Default Field VAFC + HX = NO NO?

Alrighty guys... here's a stumper for ya. I just bought a Field VAFC from tbud454. Got it in the mail today and all that, looks great. I have an HX and I want to use this with my ECU, but it clearly states that there is no application for VTEC-E. I know I can do the wiring because all of the needed wires are there, but I have no idea about the tabs on the back.

My questions:

1) WTF do they do?

2) What does each tab mean or represent?

3) Any ideas of how I can set it up for the HX ECU?

4) Any other positive comments might help.

To tell you the truth, i wouldn't break a sweat trying to figure out your problem. Seriously, you think you will gain anything from a VAFC on a HX motor?

Sorry if that didn't help with anything

Alright, guys. I came up with a new idea. The tabs basically identify your car to the VAFC, so what if I set them up for a regular D series and then leaned it out a bit under the VTEC point for the HX's lean stuff? Thoughts on this?

I dont think you would see any gains from a VAFC on an HX. WHat kind of
bolt-ons do you have...?

Well... I'm just gonna mess with it for a bit. I'm gonna try to set it up for the D15B config that I found in the manual and then tune it lean under the VTEC point to see what happens. Hopefully I'll see some gains. I'll try to document all the stuff so I can do a write up if I end up noticing anything marvelous from it.

Cool. But like the other guys said, VTEC-E= economy. Maybe you can get more economy by leaning it out more? Haha, just playin man.

All in all, don't expect too much.

All stock cars can use a fuel / air adjustment to improve perfomance because the ECU uses base maps to calculate how much fuel air to give the engine when under high load / wot conditions. The ECU disreguards the O2 sensor input when WOT, so you can trim the fuel.

You need a wideband to figure out how much though. These aren't toys you can just keep adjusting cause you think it may or may not be running better.

Thats all. I haven't ever used one like you have, only a VAFC II> sorry .

Ditch that hx ecu and go OBD1 and get a p28. I'm running a HX head on my z6 block with a chipped p28 with just a chip I had laying around that has vtec at 5500 and redline at 9000. Yeah I know those number at crazy but I got the ecu in a trade so it was all I had but I plan on getting a another chip to have vtec activate at like 3k and redline at like 7500 cause as you know the HX cam has the most aggressive vtec lobe out of all the USDM sohc vtec cams . It's so noticeable once it hits but I hate constantly driving at like above 5k to see power. Though what the am I talking about, it's a honda and a sohc vtec-e head at that also! lol I have to say I love my HX head over the z6 head that used to have on it. HX powa baby!

apexi used to use those on the old school non-digital afcs. they usually come with books that tell you which way to slide those for each car

Just to update, I'm putting it in today most likely (pending the weather). Also, I wanted to clarify that first question I asked. I was talking about the tabs on the back of the unit, not the unit itself. I know what an AFC does... and actually, now I know what the tabs do somewhat after a spot of research on some other sites. Just lettin you all know that I'm not st00pid.

Alrighty... looks like I have a Fields VAFC for sale now. LOL. The issue that I ran into when I got everything wired up was much more complicated than I originally thought. For some reason, whenever I would turn the unit on, it would slowly bog and then die out. My first thought... the HX is lean burn, maybe I'm running mega rich and am flooding the engine. So, I unhooked the SAFC wires and tried again. I got the same result and this time with a code. Code 22, which happens to be the VTEC Pressure Valve (From what I found on here). So, I was like hey, I'll unhook the VTM line and try just running the VTEC solenoid line, the rpm line, the speed sensor line, and the power line. Yeah... I mean no. Didn't work... at all. Same result, sputtering to a stall. I have no idea what was going on. I had all the wires correct as per the multiple sets of instructions that I found online, both from Field and not. I really just have no idea. I'm guessing this is why there was no application for VTEC-E.

Probably not, but I still figured I'd try to play with it.
