Default a few stupid questions =(

hey guys whats up, i dont post here much so flame me if you must =\

but anyways i want to get the b20/CRVtec motor in my 92 dx, i just went by the local shop and they said they could do it for $2300, thats with the motor price, electrical wire, labor, everything. the price doesnt sound to bad to me, but what do you guys think?

also, is the only b20(jdm b20) the crv motor? i beleive i read on here somewhere that a nother engine is called the b20, im not entirely sure though... and i dont want to get high hopes for an engine i dont want

also, if i get the swap should i get a new transmission? as far as i know the stock one is in the car now... so that means its 12 years old and has 160,000 miles on it. so should i get a new engine?

thanks for any help you can provide.

there is a b20b and b20z. i think the b20b is the US engine (not sure on this). get a B16 head and ITR or B16 tranny. GSR tranny if its going to be more daily driven (better gas mileage)

The other engine called a B20 is an old prelude engine . For the tranny, a civic DX tranny will not work with a B series motor. You will have to get a B series tranny.

thanks guys

well he said that they were all JDM 97 or newer with 50,000 or less miles on them... so do you think he was talkin about the CRV or the prelude engine?

he said about 800 or so was labor and a little for electronics and harnesses, and said i could find a B20 for about a grand and i could bring that in for them to install, it would save me a few hundred bucks

97 B20, its the CRV engine. B20B and B20Z came in CRV's. the prelude B20 ended in late 80's or early 90's (i think).

Watch your words, bro . Not all of us drag race and the stout little 1.5's can be perfect motors for some applications.

Anyhow, good luck with your CRVTEC project .

$2300 ain't too shabby - just make sure you get a good block & head (leakdown tested & compression tested)

Stay AWAY from the b20a <----thats the old prelude block much different than b20z/b blocks & unable to accept a B-series dohc vtec head

I am not an expert on the B20, but i have a warning for you. I have heard that they are not properly ballanced (or something like that) for the high rpms of a vtec head. If you are worried about this i can get some more reliable info for you or i'm sure you can find some yourself. Otherwise, good luck

Oh man, he's gonna start a vtech non-vtech discussion! God help you!

Sounds like a good deal to me, but def check out the block and head! You might be in for some machining...

Also, yeah, you need a new B series tranny. Gotta have it...

Good luck, keep us up to date!

i might be missing the updates on this project, as im starting the fresh savings tonight... i made 20$ tonight so thats goin in the safe

but, ya tell me bout vtec, i personally dont think its THAT important... but tell me the facts

also, dont you think it will be a good head and block because its from a performance shop? you think they would actually **** you over like that?
