A few questions. about ej1
Ok, I am going to give it to you straight. I am a COMPLETE n00b when it comes to cars. I currently own a beat *** 2002 Ford Focus , which currently is running, barely. I am looking in to getting a Honda because most of my friends own Honda's, I have heard good things about Honda's. And ****, I love the way the look.
I currently am attracted to the Honda Civic, coupe/hatch. The ej1 I believe the coupe is called and the hatch model, don't know the "proper term" for it. My friend owns a hatch model, and I am looking for preferably a coupe, 5 speed. I was wondering if anyone is willing to help me in what I should look for. I am currently just looking to make it real clean looking, JDM. And possibly motor swapping at a later time, but that is a completely different story.
I am just looking for help since I am a complete n00b when it comes to cars. I have friends that can help, but they do not take me seriously. So if anyone can help me with my quest to buy a Honda it would be greatly appreciated.

start looking around your local newspaper and go out there and see what you like. btw, there's no true JDM civic in the US unless it was imported here to the US and is RHD. Ive seen so many ppl in my local classified posted their Honda or Acura as "JDM" I dont see anything JDM about them beside their FAKE red emblem. haha

Watch craigslist too. Just keep an eye out in your area. Hondas are great cars and you wont be dissapointed. Make sure everything checks out on it before you buy it.

93-95 civic ex 2dr=ej1
93-95 civic dx 2dr=ej2
The ex has standard things like sunroof, pw, pl, ps, cruise control etc... The dx doesnt come with these items. For a clean look, things like a front lip, mudflaps, suspension and nice wheels really make a difference. I'll use my old car as an example:
no lip, no mudflaps, blah wheels
after w/ lip, rear mudflaps, nicer wheels
93-95 civic dx 2dr=ej2

Picture two is so, sick. What kind of wheels are those?? I would look for a wheel like this.
I think they look SO clean. Cleaned up and SHINY.

Still hate the loss of your car it was a insparation too mine, i havent been watching threads latley but what do you have planned with her? or you giving up?
For origional poster: depends on what you want, if you want luxary go for the ex, or if your wanting speed, go for a dx... dx's are a lil lighter but you dont have a v-tec engine or factory sway bars.... but if your swapping in the future that really doesnt matter...

the ex is still faster than the dx...the ex has way more potential, best bang for your buck is the ex model if doing a swap is much later down the road.

Re: A few questions. about ej1 (Probot)
Also I'm pretty sure not all EXs came with swaybars. My 1995 EJ1 (non ABS) doesn't seem to have them, were they standard on the ABS model?
OP: because of your age and the fact that it is a honda I feel obligated to tell you no Ricer lights (anything clear) and no body kits look clean on these imo. Some of the JDM body pieces really add to the look of the car but not everything that says JDM really is.

he also took that back in the next section of his response and then said a dx will be faster when its swapped. do you have anything else to prove on the internet? cause i dont think anyone else cares about what he said as much you do...

How much do you have to spend? If I had less than $3k to spend, I'd get an EJ1 or a hatch (depends on what you want). If $4k or more, personally, I'd go with a 96+ Coupe or Hatch. Newer, will most likely have less problems, etc.
All on your preference. Just stating my opinion.

Re: A few questions. about ej1 (jesimmers)
first thing's first, get this **** right.
your car will never be "jdm". jdm isn't a expletiveing style. what does it stand for? japanese domestic market. and it's exactly that - a market. so please don't go around saying your car is jdm. it's not.
anyway, yeah an ej1 is a great chassis. if you're looking to be more serious and maybe road race it down the road, get an eg6 (the hatch) because it's lighter. don't spend more than 3-4k purchasing it since it will be your first honda. the older chasses are imo much better than the newer ones, so consider the old *** 92-95 years.
anyway, gl.

dx's arent faster than ex's stock
my friends gf had a 1999 civic dx (completely stock and automatic) and when my 1999 automatic ex landed in my hands, we raced and i won....lol
and yes, we raced like 10 times more during the school year and i always won

re-read what i wrote, if you would spend more time reading the post instead of skimming it just so you can have a argument its not my fault you missread...
i plainly sated the dx was lighter, and there fore can be faster with a SWAP... but either way it still depends on what you put in it... and there will be factors both ways.. so have a nice beer and calm down...
