Fender rolling - How to do it without cracking the paint?
Hey,
I just put on 16" rims with 40 mm offset and 205/45/16 tires (On a '96 EK). The rear tires rub on the outer fender when I have a full car or I go over bad bumps. The fronts rub when I turn hard as well.
Is the "bat method" the best way to roll the fender up some so it won't rub? I really don't want to damage the paint or anything.
Thanks!

Same car, same wheels and offset, same tire size.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO ROLL YOUR FENDER.
Just pull off that black trim lining the fender lip. Problem solved

I would think that the rubber strip would help to hold water at the edge.
Its all painted though so I dont see how rust could start very easily.
On a side note, I got some 15" circuit 8s (38 offset) with 205/50/15 aziens and I had to shave the rear fenders to clear them, but I just primered over the part we cut.

I had to get my back fenders cut on my 97 coupe. I have 17's and the offset is 42 I believe. They sent me the wrong ones and won't take back. Regardless we took off the rubber lip and it didn't work, it still rubbed but worse cause it was sharper. So they cut the back and put sealant on it. Also the fronts rub when I turn sharply or with my boyfriend in the car. I need to be the only one in there. It sucks because I don't know what to do about the plastic piece up front. Thats protecting from water and snow and I don't want to cut it.

I think just peeling that strip off will not be a good idea. I had 3 people in the car and a bunch of luggage...and rap, every medium bump and turn it would rub hard!
Argh!!! I think I am going to have to roll them

I rolled my rears by using a broom handle (broken off y0!) and then just rolled it in between the tire and the lip of the fenders.
It cracked my freshly-painted fender, but you can't see it and the stock rubber trim there will go back on and it will be totally unseen then.
I would not cut the fender there though, because if you look carefully there are pinch welds there that actually may help to hold the fender to the unibody itself.
I agree that the ribber strip won't keep rust away - but I'm running mine because of the chipped paint and the previous body work there on my rear 1/4 may be more rust-proned than the stock unworked stuff.

I'll try taking the strip off and see what happens...I think it's just rubbing against the inner most part of it anyway... Thanks!

be careful if you do crack th epaint, you should sand it down and at least shoot it with rustproof primer to avoid problems in th efuture.
B18C5-EH2, I strongly suggest you not leave unpainted metal under the rubber strip, especially when it has been rolled up, then you are just asking for rust.. and yer car is so dope, you would kill me if that happened

What kind of spring/strut combo are you running, and how big is the drop?
I am getting nervous, I just ordered some Toyo Proxes T1-s's that are 205-45-16 and the wheels I am putting them on have a 40mm offset.
Fortunately I am running Progress springs with Tokico Blues on my 1993 CX. . .and the drop is very subtle. I hope I won't have any rubbing problems

The pinch welds are there because the fender lip is double rolled.

Do ya'll have camber kits? I know we got different cars and all, but I got 17's and they hardly ever rub. I have no idea what my offset is though. Dazz doesn't tell you **** about the wheels.

It just depends on the offset of your wheels if it will help you to pull off that rubber strip or not. To tell you the truth when I pulled mine off and drove it around, it was cutting into the wheel. Not cool. But with a 40 you might be able to. Now my problem is the front and I don't know what to do about that one.

I am running Eibach Sportlines with Koni Reds. It's about a 1.8 inch drop.
I just got my ingalls camber kit...I haven't adjusted it yet however....I'm getting an alignment tomorrow. We'll see what happens I guess...

This seems to be quite the common problem now... My '00 Si has Tokico Illumnas and Sportlines and it's rubbing just a lil bit on hard turns. And this is all without the correct camber. I can only imagine what it's gonna be like with a degree less camber all around.
