Icon7 Fastest Swap For Under $2500

I'm looking for a swap into my 92 cx 5spd. The only three requirements are it needs to be reliable, simple swap (no rare engines or hybrids) and the whole thing without labor needs to cost under or around $2500. I'm willing to wait for good deals. And if anyone has anything that might fit the bill in Wisconsin pm me. But I'm really just looking for options. Thanks in advance

B16a. Cheap, easy, and moves well in a Cx.Or even an Ls with a B16 tranny. You and I are lucky,it does not take much to motivate a Cx ( look at sig)

b20/vtec as long as you do it right. you can either go all motor with high comp pistons and such. or you can go boost.

Not to be rude, but did you see the NO HYBRID part of his post?He wants cheap and EASY. Not " Oh S*** I have to build a motor and THEN install it"

B16a is an option. B20 vtec is not as I want it basically stock because it needs to get me to work everytime.

Besides b16a and ls or gsr

Are there any other quick options?

a b16a will be pushing his 2500 budget. b20b, with a gsr tranny gets my vote.
but you will need to change the intake manifold its to tall

A gsr would cost you more but if you can find a deal then

The b20 would be interesting because I could always upgrade to a vtec later down the road. How hard is the b20 swap? and what tranny would I run?

Also how would the performance compare to a b16 or ls? Quarter mile estimate?

b20 is same as swapping any b series. id say if its your dd get a gsr trans. thats what im running right now and its very nice and pulls hard.

well pretty much the same as all b series, only real difference is you will need to swtich the intake manifold... you will use all the same b series stuff for b16,gsr, b20
you could use a integra ls, or gsr, tranny, or b16
i would reccomed gsr, for daily driver, not to short but not ls long
ls trannys have the longest gears of all b series tranny great for boost setups
where b16 has the shortes, great for allmotor.
not 100% on this but i think the gsr is somewhere in the middle

B16 is your best bet. Either that or a LS or B20 with a B16 tranny.

dont waste your money on b16.. vtec is overrated for someone that wants a quick cheap swap

get a ls and boost it. you can blow them up all day and replace the motor for $100-300.

ls tranny is not great on boost... maybe if you trying to do a 180mph run
shorter the gear the better with proper tires/suspenion

Comparing a b16,ls, and b20 is that a b20 compare to a b16 is that b20 has low end torque(meant for towing and can't handle high revs).

A b16 is a torqueless wonder from a idle but makes power in higher rpm.

A b20 compare to an LS is quite similiar because a b20 is like a bore out LS.(both good motor)

You said you want to add a vtec head down the road so a LS or B20 would do, but for reliabilty https://honda-tech.com/forums/all-motor-naturally-aspirated-44/how-build-%22reliable%22-lsvtec-b20vtec-1676914/

I don't want to have to replace the motor for a long time though.

What do you guys think though about b20 w/gsr trans vs b16?

The b20 will give you what the b16 lacks.... TORQUE! But b20's fall off HARD up top. Pick what you want,a great low end,or top end.
