I drive a stock 00 si. I've been wanting to ask this question since i first got the car.
When Im hitting the freeway and speeding up off the ramp to the flow of traffic, i get the wierd fart smell that gets inside the car (windows down). It goes away after awhile. It only happens when I say hit 80 Mph. Im not sure if this is a common thing with hondas. One of my buddy said that it could be the cat getting hot as Im accelerating that high which lets off that burning fart smell. Like a rust metal burning. Any ideas guys?

yep, catalytic converter. There known for the great old fart smell.

You might be running rich. Running rich will kill your cat.

I bought the car at 77k miles. Stock motor. no mods been done.
So its possible that i might be running rich? Does the fuel map change over time?
What can i do other than a full tune-up?

Also, how can you tell if your car is running rich. what are the symtoms?

Running rich would be accompanied by poor gas mileage, and black smoke out of your exhaust.
Other then a full tune up, Im thinking O2 sensor?

lmao, lol bud nothing to worry about its your cat my dads car and mine both do it also. You dont need a new anything its just your converter doing what it does burning extra gas. therefore it becomes etrodinarily hot causing the metal to omit an odor. nothing to worry about all i can say is bring some febreeze and an extra pair of undies from now on lol
