fans dont work, CEL
i have recently repainted my engine bay...
i took out all the wiring and accessories and repainted it.
i replaced the old wire harness that was messed up all over. i had a problem with the engine fan not working so i thought the wire harness was my issue. i replaced it and same problem!
now none of my fans work, but yet i can get it work when i run them direct. i have checked all my grounds and they're all in tact. i ran a test light to the two plugs and neither one shows power. so i checked the relays and swapped them out for a knowing good one and still nothing. in that same relay box i checked the fuse and it is fine.
am i not looking for another relay or fuse? i even did the bypass at the fan switch and still no power there, bypass doesnt not trigger them on!! brand new ECT sensor.
also i'm showing a CODE 6 ECT SENSOR. Wires are fine and sensor is new. i am running a p2t ECU
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

Re: fans dont work, CEL
@tony--when i jump the fan switch plug, the fans dont kick on... i'm sure the fan switch is fine. there is NO POWER when i use a test light....
@ron-- i checked the fuse in the firewall box, as well as relays. i looked under the dash and it seems like theres no fuse for fans down there.... am i missing something?
@ron -- how much resistance is my meter supposed to read??

bump, back on this project!
i no longer have a CEL but the fans still dont kick on! now my waterpump bearings are going out... would a bad water pump or a stuck thermostat cause my fans to not kick on?
fuse 17 and 56 are both good, my relay is good as well.
any inputs?@ Ron

Re: fans dont work, CEL
I had a broken wire right next to the ECT plug once. The wire was broken inside the insulation. Pulled the plug off the wire and took it to Honda the guy behind the parts counter pried the plug apart and came back with 2 new pin-connectors to rebuild the plug. Crimped the new pins on the wire, put the plug back together and no more CELs to this day. No charge. Honda is ok sometimes.
Also if you paint the bay red you'll get 3 extra horsepower.

Re: fans dont work, CEL
i found the fuse under the hood was a little corroded from not having a hood for so long. fan works only when bypassed at the fan switch.
fan switch must be bad.
a/c condensor fan still doesnt flicker on. will troubleshoot more in the near future

yes if your thermostat is stuck your fan will not turn on not sure which position it has to be stuck in but i know that if the thermostat is stuck in one of those positions it wont know that its over heating. I am guessing that your car is over heating?

Re: fans dont work, CEL
So, if you short the fan switch and if fan turns on, check or replace your thermostat. They are cheap. For the A/C fan, did your compressor work when you turn the A/C on? If compressor doesn't work, then it's not your fan. It's either the fuse or the switch.
