Failed smog... help!
I needed to get my car smog checked and it FAILED. I wanted to know if my after market air filter which the previous owner said I needed to swap it out with the OEM to pass. Since that's what he told me I asked the smog shop if they would swap it out for me and they said they would, but unfortunately after I checked the back of my car to take the air filter out and realized they didn't switch it out. So I wanted to know if that could be the main reason why I didn't pass smog? Also asked why we didn't pass and he said that there was just a bit too much raw gas coming from the exhaust. Any fix for that?

I've put rubbing alchol in my fuel b4 to pass, also make sure your plugs are good, and advancing or retarding your timing at the dizzy may help. also make sure theres no vaccum leaks. the after market intake shouldn't have anything to do with it.

If there's too much unburnt fuel coming out of your exhaust, it could be a number of things..
- clogged injectors
- faulty ECU
- broken/altered MAF sensor
If you don't know what to look for, your best bet would be to take it to your local Honda mechanic and get it looked at to see what the actual problem is.

Re: Failed smog... help!
going to the local honda is an option, but i thought they would probably charge me more than i would like since i'm only working part-time while being a full time student.
spark plugs, haven't checked them yet, which definitely is going to be on my to do list for tomorrow.
