Failed SMOG - Civic DX w/ B18C1 - Please Help
Hello. I recently failed smog as a gross polluter! Below are my numbers.
Long story short, I got my car ref'd for a B18C1. Before that my car was running super rich. So rich that my catalytic converter would turn bright red. I still drove the car to work since it is my only vehicle. I failed pretty much all the emission portions. I horribly failed "NO"
When I spoke to a couple people they said it's probably not your cat that would cause it do to that in all areas. And I spoke to some muffler shops and they said it is most definitely your cat. I just want to make sure before I dish out 300 bucks for a new one.

you can get a new 2.5 carsound cat on ebay for like $50 and install is maybe $40, sounds like you need to get it tuned though

Your cat is probably toast, but if your cat was getting that hot, you need to get that resolved before you throw another cat on or you'll end up blowing out another cat. Take your car to get it tuned first. Then toss a good cat on it.

completely stock motor with a usdm ecu? I just went with my friend to get his jdm gsr civic smogged and it passed flying colors. It had a 2.25 piping, es oval exhaust, magnaflow cat, dc carb headers, aem car air intake on a JDM b18c GSR long block. Check your ignition timing first. It may be off

I fixed the car running rich. It ended being a map sensor. But your right the cat is probably toast. As for the timing, it was at 16 TDC, which is good. I just wanted to know if the cat would cause it to throw numbers like it did in all areas?

By the way, the car is a stock usdm motor with bolt ons that are carb legal (intake, headers, intake manifold). Stock p72 OBD1 ECU. Also does the GSR have a EGR system?

Cool. I'm gonna probably have the cat changed out and maybe throw in a new o2 sensor just in case it might have gotten burnt up during that whole running rich thing. Anything else you guys might suggest. I will be posting up results tmrw

Oil change and make sure your valves are adjusted properly. New spark plugs don't hurt either.

Alright guys. Just changed out the cat and o2 sensor. Cat cost me 260 and o2 sensor was like 100 bucks! I hate Californias rules about catalytic converters. It's retarded that CA cats are like 3x more. I will post up results afterwards. Wish me luck. I will be praying for a fu*king pass!

Cool just passed after changing out the cat and the o2 sensor. Here are my results. Only thing is my HC (PPM) was pretty high. At least higher than average. Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing it to be high????
