Re: Failed ca bar
Its part of the evap system, I really can't tell you anything specfic about, other than there are 2 vacuum hoses on it, one goes to the intake manifold, other goes to the charcoal canister.

Re: Failed ca bar
After the engine is warmed up (as signaled by the coolant temperature sensor, for one), the computer sends a signal to the purge solenoid valve to open. When the valve opens, vacuum from the throttle body/air intake is applied to the evap system's charcoal canister's diaphragm purge control valve, opening it. The stored fumes from the gas tank now get sucked into the engine's air intake. autozone.com has a decent description of the evap system in general under "emission controls" yada in its free online 85-95 Civic manual.

Re: Failed ca bar
No, that would be the IAB (intake air bypass) solenoid, found only on '94 - '01 GS-R/SiR-G engines. (I know you said yours is a '93, but also that its JDM, so i'll assume its a B18C engine that was produced in '93)

Dealing with my 91 Civic now trying to get it to pass emissions (not California's). I have little hope.

That's for an ITR, but the procedures are the same. You need to get a USDM GSR intake mani that has the nipple for the EVAP purge solenoid. You'll also need a USDM GSR ECU like the above poster said. You can bypass the CKF sensor by performing this trick:

Re: Failed ca bar
i have a JDM p72 and the inspector said its fine. "As long as its stamped p72 i dont care" that is what he told me. and he also asked me if my intake mani was JDM or USDM cause he couldnt tell even with looking at the diagram they use.
